Art & Design Technology Technician

The Peterborough School (TPS) is an Independent Day School delivering exceptional education and nurturing children from Nursery through to Sixth Form. The School is seeking to appoint a full time Art and Design Technology Technician to support the Art, Design and Food Technology Department. The successful person will be responsible for preparation for lessons, ordering of materials, maintenance of storage, stock levels, cleanliness and safe condition of equipment and materials. This could be a great opportunity for anyone considering a career in teaching. Some additional hours of teaching may be available for a candidate with suitable experience.

Salary is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience. £20,000 - £23,000 (pro rata). The School has its own salary scale, free school lunches and on-site staff parking, as well as other perks.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for who you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
Stock and Administration Tasks
- Purchasing departmental supplies
- Ordering of ingredients for Food Technology lessons
- Organise departmental storage
- Check delivery receipts against invoices and file
- Check expenditure levels with accounts regularly
- Liaise with parents/pupils about collection of old GCSE and A Level work
- Stocktake regularly
Display
- Mount artwork for display in department
- Mount artwork and display around the whole school
- Work with maintenance staff to erect display boards for moderations and exhibition
- Support the set up GCSE and A Level artwork for exhibition and moderation
Staff and Pupil Support
- Undertake basic food preparation as required to support Food Technology lessons, and support pupils in lessons as required.
- Photocopy and scan resources for use in classroom and display
- Assist teachers in classroom organisation and stock
- Pack and Fire kiln
Health and Safety
- Ensuring health safety practices are followed when working with art materials and equipment
- Updating COSHH sheets
- Updating risk assessments for technician duties annually
- Ensuring Food Technology equipment and accommodation is kept to required hygienic standards.
- Undertake Level 2 Food Safety training (provided by School)
Equipment
- Ensuring Art, Design and Food Technology implements, equipment and tools are serviceable and clean
- Organisation of servicing of equipment as necessary
- Organise annual kiln service
- Upkeep of sewing machines and other textiles machinery
Candidate Qualifications:
Essential
- Graduate Art and Design or Design Technology
- GCSE English and Maths - Grade C/4 or higher
Desirable
- Appropriate qualifications and/or training for Teach Assistants and/or Technicians
- First Aid Qualifications
Candidate Experience:
Essential
- Practical aptitude to a range of tasks with an ability to work as part of a team and autonomously.
Desirable
- Continuing Art and Design Technology practice or industry experience
Candidate Skills:
Essential
- Excellent communication and oral and written presentations skills
- Good IT skills
- Basic food preparation skills

- Mounting artwork and creating displays with attention to detail
