Archives Assistant
Salary from £29,935 to £33,104 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £35,441 pa inclusive of London allowance
This is a fixed term appointment for 2 years
The Library is at the heart of LSE, one of the world’s leading social science universities and serves a vibrant community of students and staff in the centre of London. The Library is known both nationally and internationally for its extensive collections, its involvement in innovative projects and its high-quality services.
We are looking for an Archives Assistant to join the Archives and Special Collections Team. The role focusses on the description of archival records and other activities relating to the management and development of collections information. The post-holder will work under the supervision of a qualified archivist who will provide technical guidance and support.
Candidates should be educated to at least ‘A’ level (or equivalent), have a good standard of numeracy and literacy and have experience of using library or archives catalogues or other databases to search for resources. They should have a high degree of accuracy and outstanding attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills, and self-motivation. They should also have problem-solving skills, the ability to deal with repetitive tasks and to manage and organize own workload. Please note that this role is primarily campus-based due to the requirement for working with physical heritage material.
