We currently have a rare opportunity for a customer focused individual to join our Public Engagement department as an Archive Engagement and Volunteering Assistant. This is a part-time role working two days a week on a 12 -month fixed term contract.
As a member of the Historic England Archive team (HEA), you will help to improve understanding of our collections, including what we have, its copyright status, and its condition. You will also make sure that the content and assets are shared with a variety of audiences in accessible, inspiring, and engaging ways. Through your work, you will also support the delivery of material for the purposes of income generation and improved access.
In accordance with the HE Archive Volunteer Policy, you will assist the Archive Engagement and Volunteering Officer in planning and carrying out a variety of volunteer activities. This will include supervising volunteers, delivering events, gathering feedback from events, and ensuring that the impact of the projects is recognised and shared.
What you will be doing:
You will be responsible for overseeing projects carried out by archive volunteers (both offline and online), working closely with other Archive personnel, including providing volunteer training and aiding in project conception and setup.
Guaranteeing that the area used for volunteer work is welcoming and that the appropriate equipment is available, resources are provided, and volunteers are assisted.
Assisting the Engagement and Volunteering Officer, you will keep track of, assess and document the results of volunteer projects.
Support the engagement programme by conducting research, gathering resources, assisting with project design and setup, participating in events and gathering feedback, and supporting meetings by taking notes.
Ensure the archive is an integrated part of the Communications and Public Engagement team.
Develop and foster innovative ways of making material available and accessible.
Who we are looking for :
Prior experience working with volunteers or the general public in a museum, educational setting, or archive.
An understanding of the different barriers to cultural and heritage participation.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Planning and time management skills.
A team player
Ability to work in a flexible and agile manner
IT and digital skills
