Our apprentices are the future of our business. On our 45-month apprenticeship programme you will learn the skills to become a successful Engineering Technician with a fantastic range of future career options ahead of you. With the current levels of advancement in technology, there could not be a more exciting time to join us and following successful completion of your apprenticeship you will be offered a permanent role, with one of the best rental equipment providers in the industry. This apprenticeship will provide you with training in both electrical and mechanical engineering, whilst gaining experience of working with innovative cutting-edge equipment.
Daily you’ll work within one of our operational centres where you will learn to:
- Maintain and repair our Energy Solutions equipment, gaining knowledge and experience whilst working with generators, electrical systems, control and load sharing systems and motor controls
- Develop the knowledge and ability to identify issues with electrical and mechanical equipment, utilising expanding skills to test and inspect both at service centres and at customer sites whilst diagnosing and rectifying faults
- Work with the power depot network to fully understand the requirements for routine/scheduled maintenance, servicing and pre-hire inspection activities, ensuring legislative and regulatory requirements are met
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive service and maintenance records
- Understand client requirements within power related projects, learning to design, manage and deliver appropriate solutions
- Develop the knowledge to provide comprehensive technical information and advice to customers and colleagues
- Continually expand your product knowledge
- Ensure that all correct operational and safety guidelines and procedures are met consistently
- Build excellent working relationships with customers and understand their business needs and requirements
- Become an ambassador for our “Customer First” culture, resolving any issues quickly and keeping your colleagues and customers informed, so they feel truly valued
- Expand your team working skills with your colleagues and the wider Sunbelt Rentals team
- Manage multiple tasks and deadlines as part of a varied workday in a fast-paced operational environment
We’ll provide you with a comprehensive company induction, role-specific training, and apprenticeship support. You will become a part of a larger apprentice cohort where you will be able to form lifelong relationships and engage in a wider support network.
We’ll also support your personal growth and development in line with your Sunbelt Rentals career aspirations. You will attend both in-house and manufacturer courses to expand your product knowledge and skills.
Apprenticeship Training
You will be completing a level 3 Engineering Technician (Mechatronics Maintenance Technician pathway) Apprenticeship Standard. This will be delivered using a combination of:
- Workplace experience to gain practical skills
- Guidance and training from an experienced workplace mentor
- Industry recognised training leading to an apprenticeship qualification. You will attend residential placements at Birmingham Metropolitan College and will be required to travel independently and stay in hotel accommodation whilst training. Travel to college may be outside of your normal working hours depending on distance and mode of transport. Costs incurred during training placements are covered by the business.

About You
What you will need to bring to the role from day one:
- A willingness to travel and attend residential training placements at college
- GCSE or equivalent Grade 4 or above in Maths, English and Science is essential
