It is an exciting time for Holly Hedge as we embark on a number of improvements and refurbishments across the sanctuary. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual dedicated to animal welfare, who can work as part of a collaborative team, in a charity that expects the highest standard of care.
This role involves:
· Developing the team of both paid and non paid workers to ensure we operate in line with current best practice within the welfare sector
· Deputise in the absence of the General Manager
· Report to the General Manager regarding issue’s on site involving animals or staff and volunteers
· Assist with the onsite vet visits, complete all associated admin (or delegate as necessary)
· Oversee and ensure all animals in Holly Hedges care receive the treatments required whilst in our care, as advised by a Veterinary Surgeon
· Work with the internal behaviourist to ensure dogs & cats are seen and behavioural programmes in place, so our dogs and cats are given the correct care and training they need and we have an accurate assessment of their behaviour
· Build positive working relations with the rehoming team and encourage good communications, staff training & implement protocols to improve the smooth running of the rehoming team
· Ensure the care and welfare of all animals on site is of the highest standards of hygiene, dietary management and health
· Support the General Manager in regards to all Health and Safety matters, to report all incidents/ near misses to the General Manager & Behaviour Officer and to ensure we are working in a safe environment at all times
· To carry out Lock Up duty & OOH response on a rota basis each week
· To carry out any driving jobs as requested and that fall under Holly Hedge duties of work
· To keep accurate records and help devise new improved systems to avoid duplication and time wasting
· To ensure supplies and ordering are completed by the person responsible and that we are purchasing our stocks and supplies from the most competitive companies to reduce over spending of Holly Hedge money
· To support the General Manager with the supervision, management and training of all Holly Hedge staff , plus recruitment of new staff as and when required to do so
· To liaise with members of the public, rescue groups and other reputable organisations in regards to placing our dogs in the most suited homes following Holly Hedge guidelines and discussion
· To be IT skilled and able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
· To help with the weekly staff rota as required and monitor staffing levels. Discuss any concerns with the General Manager
· This list is not exhaustive and you may be asked to perform duties out of normal working hours or that are not listed above and that fall within your own capabilities, should the Charity request
40 hours a week (with an hours unpaid lunch break) to include 8-5pm, 11-9pm, lock up and OOH duties on a rota basis
Salary from £23,000 per year, dependent on experience, initially on a 12 month fixed term contract with the potential for a permanent role.

The successful candidate will have:
Essential:
Previous experience in a supervisory or management role
Qualifications in animal management and/or with at least 3 years experience in the animal welfare sector
Have the ability and knowledge to handle animals (mainly dogs and cats) with calmness, understanding, and confidence
Full, clean driving licence
Skills & experience to motivate and manage staff
Strong IT skills
Desirable:
Knowledge in Health & Safety & HR practices
First Aid at Work Qualification
