Job description
The RSPCA Leeds, Wakefield and District Branch provides a safe haven in which abused, neglected, and abandoned animals can be cared for, socialised and rehabilitated before they are found a new home.
We work closely with the National RSPCA but we are completely separate charities so we are self-funded, receiving no government funding.
The branch can provide accommodation for 15 dogs, 30 cats and 8 rabbits at any one time
Are you looking to work on the frontline of an organisation that ends cruelty, promotes kindness and alleviates suffering to animals?
We’re recruiting an Animal Care Assistant to join us at our Leeds and Wakefield Animal Centre in East Ardsley, Wakefield on a full time, permanent basis to provide care for all animals in the centre, establish good customer relations and maintain administration and health and safety procedures.
The animals that come into our care are identified by our uniformed inspectors as those most in need. Often abandoned, abused and neglected they all receive care, attention and love from the team.
We look after cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs. At any one time we could be caring for over 50 animals! It’s inspiring to think how much more of a difference we can make, and if you’d like to be a part of making a difference, this is your opportunity to join the team.
What you’ll be doing:
- Cleaning animal accommodation for cats, dogs and small animals to the required standard set by the RSPCA
- Preparing and providing food and water for all animals in the establishment
- Performing regular health checks on all animals and giving medical treatments as prescribed by the Centre’s consulting Veterinary Surgeon
- Attending to the needs of the individual animals including providing exercise/socialisation and grooming for all animals within the care of the centre
- Communicating with members of the public, representing the RSPCA positively and professionally at all times.
- Working as part of a team with staff and volunteers
- Completing all relevant animal paperwork
- Helping the Leeds and Wakefield Animal Centre rehabilitate animals most in need
- Have an active role in rehoming our animals
- Work closely with our Branch Behaviourist
- Assist with our Home to Home Adoption Scheme
You’ll have:
- Experience working with domestic animals – good animal handling skills are essential
- Communication skills and enjoy working as part of a team
- Animal Care qualifications are desirable
