About you:
We are looking for someone who has a passion for animal welfare with the ability to confidently handle a variety of agricultural animals. We need someone who is resourceful, adaptable, and eager to learn new skills. Teamwork is a key component of the role and therefore we require someone who is reliable and collaborative. The majority of the work by its nature is physical and will involve manual handling so the candidate will need to be comfortable with this.
Essential Qualifications/Experience/Attributes:
· Experience working with agricultural animals.
· Minimum grade C in English and Maths.
· Computer literate.
· UK driving licence plus own transport.
· Weekend availability.
· Team player as well as the ability to lone work.
· Reliable, hardworking and committed.
· Acts on initiative.
· Attention to detail.
Desirable Qualifications/Experience:
· Animal based qualification
· Experience working in a scientific research facility
· Experience of following written processes and working to strict guidelines
Job Responsibilities:
· Daily care and husbandry of all animals on site and recording of any observations.
· Maintaining the farm site including any biosecurity measures.
· Setting up animal accommodations for upcoming programmes of work.
· Dismantling animal accommodations and cleaning of equipment after programme of work completion.
· Involvement in clinical procedures e.g. animal body weighing.
· Accurate recording of data.
Additional Information:
Our animal care team are essential for ensuring the well-being of all our animals on site and a high standard of animal welfare is required at all times in order to comply with Home Office legislation specific to research facilities. You will be expected to work to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and be able to closely follow instruction. The successful candidate would be working in a small team, overseen by an in-department manager, working under the instruction of project leaders to deliver a variety of programmes of work.
Schedule:
· 08:00 – 16:00 Monday to Friday.
· Weekend work on a rota basis.
· Occasional night shifts as per study requirements.
· TOIL system used for overtime.
