Anglican Chaplain
HMP Thameside
7 days week
Full time, 40 Hours, 8:30am-5:00pm
£32,907.08 per annum, plus £6200 (London Weighting)
HMP Thameside is a privately run prison estate located in Southeast London. The prison is a remand establishment operated by Serco Ltd.
We have a vacancy for an Anglican Chaplain to join. The purpose of this role is to establish and maintain HMP Thameside as a model of excellence for religious, spiritual and pastoral services for the prisoners within our care. The role focuses on offering emotional and spiritual support to both staff and prisoners to effectively meet their personal and social needs. A key aspect of the position is to provide positive interventions that meet the needs of the population.
Other responsibilities for the Anglican Chaplain includes:
Assists the Managing Chaplin in making sure the needs and interests of the total prisoner population are met- Perform statutory duties as required by the MOJ, including interviewing all new prisoners within 24 hours of arrival, daily visiting prisoners in the Segregation Unit, daily visiting prisoners in the Health Care Centre, leading corporate worship as required.
- Convey news of serious illness or death in a family to prisoner involved as soon as possible after the news is received and confirmed by the prison.
- Maintain accurate records and present reports as required.
- Liaise with community organisations, organise activities which promote positive interaction to the benefit of the prisoners and the community; represent the Company.
- Take responsibility for the provision of worship for prisoners and supporting other Chaplains both sessional and volunteers in the provision of worship.
Any other duties as may reasonably be required
What you need to do the job
This is an opportunity for an individual who has appropriate and proven experience within their own faith and have at least 3 years’ experience at delivering the services and activities of that faith within a custodial environment. They must have a flexibly approach to working.
They should also be comfortable and conversant to working collaboratively in a multi-faith chaplaincy.
The successful post holder should be innovative in approach and forward thinking. It is essential that they have a proven high level of professionalism and competence in religious leadership to bring to the role.
