Job description
Richmond and Wandsworth Councils are looking for a Data Analyst to work across both Councils as we develop our digital strategy. We are currently rolling out traffic, air quality and other sensors on the highway network to provide comprehensive data coverage across the boroughs. We are using increasingly powerful sensors and technology to provide comprehensive data sets and we need to be able to use this data innovatively to inform future decisions on where to allocate resources to achieve maximum effect, taking into account our active travel, cycling and air quality plans and objectives.

Using internal, external sources and public data, you will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of analytical and strategic projects, with significant organisational and social impact.
The postholder will be working closely and supporting the work of managers across both boroughs traffic and engineering teams extracting, cleaning, and summarising highway asset management, traffic and parking data.
The postholder will also write reports, maintaining, and updating analytical products and responding to requests for data and information. The postholder will work closely with officers in the teams and across the council to support the delivery of the highways and transport work plan and contribute towards advancing data and analytics across the SSA.
The Role
You will be joining the Traffic and Engineering Team which manages the highway infrastructure across both London boroughs.
Your work will enable Richmond and Wandsworth Councils to make informed decisions and implement transformative and innovative ways of working by providing insightful analyses and innovative data solutions to deliver high-quality transport and public realm services for residents. The data produced will also inform the design process for future public realm projects.
Your role
- Demonstrate curiosity and apply an analytical mindset when approaching analytical problems.
- Provide analytics support towards products such as annual reports, needs assessments, strategic assessments, service reviews etc.
- Demonstrate an eagerness to learn and develop.
- Extract, collate, summarise data and develop dashboards and reports that are timely and accurate.
- Clean, manipulate and link various types of data.
- Summarise and present data and conclusions in the most appropriate format for users.
Your skills
- Good communications skills, both written and verbal, and be able to maintain effective working relationships across the council and with partner organisations.
- Highly numerate with skills in the analysis, reporting and interpretation of data analyses.
- Ability to clean, analyse, summarise, and manage data.
- Advance MS Excel Skills and proficient in PowerBI
- Able to query using SQL (desirable)
- Conduct analysis using R or Python (desirable)
- Eager to learn, curious and motivated to develop new skills.
Current Post
Current role is a fixed term post for 1 year, although this may be extended.
There will be a short test at the interview. You will be expected to use Power Bi Dashboard and present the findings to the interview panel.
