Agent Handler

Agent Handler London, England

MI5
Full Time London, England 50938 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

London

£53,994 (basic salary £50,938, plus disturbance allowance of 6% of salary)

Working pattern: Compressed hours, part-time and job share options available. Due to the nature of the role, remote/home working and shift work isn’t possible. Some evening and weekend work may be required; an additional allowance to cover general disturbance is also included.

MI5 safeguards the UK against a range of threats, such as terrorism and state threats, like espionage and sabotage. We investigate individuals and organisations who pose a threat to the UK by obtaining, collating, analysing and assessing secret intelligence relating to these threats. Join us and in our supportive, encouraging culture, you’ll unlock your potential while enjoying a uniquely rewarding career.

The Agent Handler role is one where empathy, people skills and trust will be key, as you’ll build and nurture relationships with members of the public who provide us with vital intelligence. Curious and comfortable working independently, you’ll interact with a diverse range of agents, engaging in conversations that can sometimes be difficult, and de-briefing internal colleagues on developments. You'll always be supported when working out and about and in constant contact with your team. With sound judgement, you’ll recognise significant information and be comfortable making decisions that influence real operations.

We’ll give you all the training you need to be a successful Agent handler. While a good proportion of your time will be spent outside of the office, you’ll also need to ensure all meetings are followed up with the necessary paperwork, producing written records once back in the office. So, as well as being organised, you’ll need to accurately interpret and understand information and liaise with experts within MI5 to keep your work legal, compliant, and secure.

To join, you’ll have a minimum of two GCSEs in Maths and English at Grades 9-4 (A*-C), or other equivalent qualifications or experience; we’ll teach you the rest. You’ll need to take and pass our specialist Agent Handler course and, once you do, there’s dedicated Continuous Professional Development training courses, mentorship and formal development pathways to support your ambitions. You may occasionally be required to do weekend or evening work, but we’ll offer flexibility with your working pattern to enable you to enjoy a good work-life balance.

Ours is an inclusive, welcoming and open culture. We’re proud to have a number of growing affinity groups, including ethnic minority and gender equality networks, mental health, neurodiversity and disability groups, faith/no faith and LGBTQ+ communities, and more. You’ll also find a variety of sport, activity, interest and social groups, all to help you settle in and connect with people with similar interests.

This is a unique opportunity to utilise your people skills and make and real contribution to national security.

At MI5 diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. To protect the UK, we need a truly diverse workforce that reflects the society we serve. This includes diversity in every sense of the word: those with different backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, ways of thinking and those with disabilities or neurodivergent conditions. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce such as women, those from an ethnic minority background, people with disabilities and those from low socio-economic backgrounds.
