An excellent opportunity has arisen for a play worker to join a lovely out of school club setting in Westhill, Aberdeenshire. This position is a maternity cover for up to 18 months, with the potential of a permanent contract thereafter.
Hours are 30 hours a week Monday to Friday on a split shift basis term time – 07:15am till 09:15am and then 14:00pm till 18:00pm. There is the opportunity for occasional overtime and hours during the school holidays.
The team at School's Out! Club, are dedicated to offering high quality childcare before and after school and during the school holidays. The setting provides a wide variety of care and facilities for children aged between 4 years and 11 years old. The setting has a well-established team of qualified and dedicated staff whose focus is the welfare of the children entrusted to their care.
The successful candidate will be passionate and enthusiastic about working with children in all aspects of their care, learning and development, partake in planning activities, be able to liaise with and report to parents maintaining confidentiality at all times and be part of a small and friendly team. The role will be working alongside the club practitioners and manager and supporting our lovely growing team.
Role Requirements
- An understanding of play work
- Experience of working in a childcare setting.

Main duties include:
· Assist with planning, preparing, and delivering quality play opportunities within a safe and caring environment.
· Providing comprehensive care for the children including collecting them from school and delivering them safely to parents or carers.
· Setting up the play space including moving furniture and play equipment.
· Providing refreshments and ensuring that hygiene, health, and safety standards are met.
· Administering first aid when necessary.
· Consulting with children and involving them in planning activities.
· Helping with club administration, where necessary.
· Encouraging parental involvement in the club.
· Facilitating good communication with all members of the organisation, parents, and schools.
· Undertaking appropriate and relevant training.
· Keeping the work environment healthy, safe, and secure.
· Working within the framework of the club’s policies and procedures.
Essential qualities
· Experience of working with 4- to 11-year-olds
· Understanding the varied needs of children and their families
· Understanding the issues involved in the delivery of quality play care.
· Understanding the issues of equal opportunities
· Provide and facilitate safe and creative play.
· Good communication skills
· Able to work as part of a team.
· Sound judgement and common sense
· Sufficient understanding and use of English to ensure the well-being of the children.
Desirable qualities
· Experience of working within a play-based setting
· Experience of administration
· Ability to work on own initiative.
· Relevant qualification or willingness to work towards this.
· Appropriate child protection training
· Current Paediatric First Aid Certificate
· Food Hygiene Certificate
