Head Roaster

We are an exciting start-up based in Worcester, UK, specialising in the production of high-quality, specialty coffee.

We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Head Roaster to join our team on a part-time basis, with the scope for the role to become full-time in the near future as the company grows.

As Head Roaster, you will be responsible for overseeing our coffee roasting operations, ensuring that our products consistently meet our high standards of quality and flavour. You will work closely with the owner to create unique and innovative blends, while also ensuring that our production processes are efficient, safe, and sustainable. This is a role that the company will grow around and offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a Roastery from the ground level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of coffee roasting, including roast profiling, quality control, and maintenance of state-of-the-art roasting equipment.
  • Develop and refine roast profiles to ensure consistent flavour and quality across all batches of coffee.
  • Collaborate with our team of coffee experts to create unique and innovative blends that showcase the full range of flavours and aromas of our specialty coffees.
  • Manage inventory of green coffee beans and ensure that all roasting is conducted in a timely and efficient manner to meet production demands.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all health and safety guidelines and protocols.
  • Maintain roastery equipment on a weekly basis
  • Train and mentor roasting assistants to ensure that all members of the team are performing at the highest level.
  • Due to the start up nature there will be other duties that may arise such as serving coffee from our amazing trailer at large events (also training our wholesale partners, offering great customer service and sales).
  • Perform cuppings and espresso tastings with the team and our wholesale/retail partners.

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of experience as a head roaster in a specialty coffee environment.
  • Experience with roasting on state-of-the-art equipment, such as a Giesen.
  • A deep understanding of coffee roasting science, including roast profiling and sensory analysis.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to train and mentor team members effectively.
  • Passion for specialty coffee and a commitment to producing the highest quality products.
  • Flexibility to work on a part-time basis, with the potential for the role to become full-time in the future.
  • Barista experience would be beneficial.
  • Physically fit: able to lift up to 30kg, drag up to 70kg & stand up to 8 hours.
  • Positive mindset.
  • Attention to detail at all times.
  • Able to work independently, multitask & remain calm under pressure.
  • Willing to work evenings & weekends when necessary.
