If so, the Ministry of Transportation's Freedom of Information & Privacy Unit is looking for you to join their team to help manage the large and complex information access requests that are made under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).

Information Management Services Office

The Information Management Services Office (IMSO) is responsible for coordinating the ministry's information services, ensuring its compliance with relevant legislation, and meeting its open government commitments. The FOI & Privacy Unit manages all requests for access to ministry records made under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The unit provides advice on protecting sensitive and personal information and investigates privacy breaches or complaints. The Records and Information Management (RIM) Unit provides advice, training and leadership regarding information management and best practices. Other services include facilitating the annual disposition of records, coordinating transfer and retrieval of semi-active records from off-site storage.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this challenging role, you will:
  • Plan and coordinate comprehensive research, analysis and investigations for the management of privacy issues and information requests
  • Manage large and complex access requests
  • Evaluate FOI policies and programs
  • Plan and lead concurrent policy projects as well as prepare reports and materials
  • Mediate appeals issues
  • Deliver access and privacy training and establish effective partnerships with clients and stakeholders
  • Provide strategic advice to senior management


How do I qualify?

Ability with Legislation:

  • You are able to interpret and apply the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and regulations, privacy guidelines and related policies


Analytical, Research and Problem Solving Skills:

  • You have strong analytical skills to conduct risk assessments of access or privacy issues and develop strategic approaches, concepts and policies
  • You have excellent research and investigative skills to identify contentious issues, research case law and investigate privacy breaches and complaints
  • You can solve complex problems
  • You are well organized and can plan and manage a large case load and complex projects


Communication and Interpersonal:

  • You are able to build and maintain effective working relationships
  • You can prepare and deliver presentations
  • You are able to negotiate solutions and fee structures
  • You can communicate in a clear and concise manner to provide advice and brief ministry staff and senior officials
  • You are able to work independently or in a team


Ministry and Adult Education Knowledge:

  • You are able to gain knowledge of ministry organization, statutes, programs and mandate
  • You can understand complex processes to provide strategic advice, recommendations and briefings
  • You have knowledge of adult education techniques to deliver training to staff and senior management
