We have a fantastic opportunity for an Employee Relations Advisor to join our people team. This role can be based within Leeds or the West Midlands with flexibility for hybrid working.


Reporting directly to our HR Business Partners, the Employee Relations Advisor will be responsible for supporting and providing employee relations advice and guidance to our operational management teams. Acting as the first point of contact and taking the lead in supporting with a broad range of generalist HR related issues. You will be required to manage a high number of case files at any one time which could be between 20 to 30 files.

Role Responsibilities

  • To act as the first point of contact for line managers requiring employee relations advice and guidance.
  • Ensuring the approach to providing advice is legally compliant and commercially appropriate before commencement of any process and policy application.
  • To support the HRBP’s and provide day to day support and delivery with ‘common’ related matters ie Occupational Health, Capability Management and assist with cases that require additional support ie Change Programmes, Redundancy, TUPE etc.
  • To share and issue managers with appropriate policy, process and template letters to support activity being applied. Which may also require a degree of handholding to support and develop line manager HR knowledge and capability.
  • To actively manage all sickness absence related activity resulting in Occupational Health/GP reports in conjunction with the operational management teams, providing proactive and regular visibility of progress.
  • To contribute to keeping up to date with required activity trackers for all regional activity.
  • To provide TUPE administration support as required and work in partnership with the HRBP and other stakeholders.
  • To assist the HRBP’s with any ER and Advisory training to the Operational Management team and HR Admin team ie sickness absence, managing disciplinary, grievance, performance improvement plans etc.

Do you have what it takes?


  • A solid HR/ER background, preferably within a shared service environment.
  • The ability to manage high volume case files at any one time (20 – 30 cases).
  • Previous experience of advising managers on the application of policy and process.
  • Experience in delivering HR related training would be an advantage.
  • A good understanding of current employment legislation and how to apply.
  • A proficient communicator who demonstrates active listening and is calm and responsive.
  • Must display confidence through all written communications coupled with the ability to provide advice that doesn’t always please the recipient.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, particularly in an environment that works at pace.
  • An advanced user of Microsoft word, excel, PowerPoint and outlook.

Knowledge and qualifications

  • Currently studying or have completed CIPD level 3 as a minimum and keen to progress.
  • A minimum of 3 years HR experience with a good understanding and confidence when providing practical and commercial HR advice.
