An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Non Gynae Biomedical Scientist with HCPC Registration to join our well established Cellular Pathology team. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic experienced Biomedical Scientist to lead the Non gynae Cytology team in this new role for the network.
With this post we plan to support the clinic across the network with inadequacy in established clinics for head and neck and depending on experience to assist our reporting pathologists with the reporting of non gynae cases. The post is AFC Band 8a if the candidate meets all the essential criteria - has the Diploma of Expert Practice in Non-Gynaecological Cytology or equivalent and Advanced Non-Gynae Cytology RCpath Advanced Specialist Diploma in Non-Gynaecological Cytology or equivalent. Any trainee candidates will be paid at AFC Band 7 until this is achieved.

The role is a network role but is based at the UHCW site. Non Gynae support is expected to our sister site at Warwick to assist the Histology team and their FNA clinic where required. We are looking for someone with a flexible approach to working times to support the Non Gynae cytology needs of the team.
This is a 1 year fixed term post with an aim to extend once the role is established.

- Take technical charge of the section of the Non-Gynae laboratory. Supervising all Biomedical scientists and Biomedical assistants and ensuring standard operating procedures and policies are followed.
- Promote effective team working of staff within Cellular pathology.
- Contribute to the attainment and maintenance of UKAS and good laboratory practice.
- Assess suitability of test samples submitted for cytological investigation and suitability for microscopic analysis at quality checks.
- Assess preparations for abnormal cellular changes and / or infection make judgments on the appropriate recall interval for negative and inadequate preparations.
- Report or refer aspects of cytological investigations where appropriate.
- Clinically validating own generated negative and inadequate Non-Gynae Cytology reports which are highly complex and highly sensitive in nature. Apply national and internal quality standards aided by annual external assessment and internal quality audit
- To demonstrate a level of morphological interpretation through the role of checking.
- Responsible for the training and development of staff in Cellular Pathology, ensuring up to date training logs and the continuous professional development of Biomedical Scientists and Biomedical Assistants, in the Non-Gynae section.
- Work with Biomedical Scientists to ensure that all equipment is adequately maintained with up to date maintenance records being available.
