Administrator – Communications Consumer Panel and Advisory Committee for Older and Disabled People

Overview – the Panel and its team
The Communications Consumer Panel (‘the Panel’), was established by the Communications Act 2003. The Panel is a group of independent experts, Non-Executive Directors from across the UK and are supported by a small executive team. This role sits within that team.

The Panel’s job is to ensure that the sector works for consumers, citizens and micro businesses - and in particular people who may be in a more vulnerable position in society. The Panel uses evidence and insights to promote the interests of consumers and inform Ofcom, government departments, industry and others. The Panel consists of a Chair and up to twelve Members.
The Panel’s team is hired by Ofcom to work for the Panel and help to ensure that the needs and requirements of consumers, citizens and micro-businesses are represented in communications policy development. Between us, we attend monthly Panel meetings and run the Panel’s stakeholder engagement, research and policy workstreams and work with the Panel to design its future strategy.
Team structure

The Panel’s current team consists of an Executive Director, a Manager and a Coordinator who work closely to help the Panel deliver its plans. The Administrator is a new role created to support the team.
Purpose of the Role

The team’s work is very varied and we need to support the team and Panel to make a difference for consumers across the whole communications sector, encompassing online safety, broadband, home phone and mobile services, TV, postal services and radio. This role will require you to work closely with other executive team members and at times the Panel Chair and Panel Members, as well as Ofcom colleagues and stakeholders.
You will play a key role in helping to plan Panel workstreams and events, understanding what is important and what is urgent to ensure that projects stay on track. You will communicate clearly and openly with other team members to help them to understand what they need to do and when.
The role of Administrator will be varied, providing valuable support to the Panel’s research and insight programme, stakeholder engagement and governance functions.
Your strengths will include a strong attention to detail, good organisation and time management skills and integrity. You will have the ability to work flexibly as a team colleague, but also to be clear and firm about what is needed to ensure that the Panel’s deadlines are met. This is a great opportunity for someone with experience of, or an interest in working to support a team in a friendly environment.
Your excellent time management and administrative skills will underpin all the team’s work, to help make a difference to the lives of people and micro-businesses in all parts of the UK.
Requirements of the Role
  • Provide administrative and project management support to the Panel’s executive team, including developing and maintaining internal project plans.
  • Lead on diary management for the Panel and team where needed, particularly the Panel’s Chair.
  • Be a point of contact for stakeholder queries, drafting an initial response with support from the team, escalating queries where relevant.
  • Assist with management of the Panel’s website.
  • Assist in the effective functioning of a range of the Panel’s operations, including the organisation of events and follow-up of actions.
  • Help to plan and deliver the Panel’s research and insight programme, as requested.
Skills, knowledge and experience
  • An understanding of how to keep the team’s outputs running efficiently in terms of balancing time quality of outputs and the varied needs of the Panel, team members and stakeholders.
  • Great attention to detail and pride in your work to ensure delivery of high-quality outputs.
  • Clear, friendly and accurate communication skills.
  • Proactive, with a flexible, trustworthy, team-focused approach to tasks.
  • Positive mindset – willing to continuously learn and develop and to share knowledge with the team.
  • Ability to develop an understanding of the Panel’s regulatory remit.
  • Ability to communicate openly with colleagues, raising concerns and seeking help from other members of the Panel’s team where needed.
Location
The Panel’s team works flexibly, through a mixture of home-based and office-based work as appropriate to colleague and Panel needs.
