Job summary
We are Forestry England. We are the country’s largest land manager, caring for the nation’s forests for people, nature and the economy. The foundation of our organisation is our world-class sustainable management of the nation’s forests.
Our South England Forest District team is made up of around 160 people who deliver a diverse range of roles. From Foresters to Volunteer Co-ordinators, we all contribute towards the management of some 46,000 hectares of land across public woods and forests, and two national parks.
Much of Forestry England’s forests in the South District are of high national importance for nature conservation and wildlife, and of international importance for biodiversity.
Sustainability is at the heart of our work and in this important role, you will be part of the Recreation and Public Affairs Permissions team who process permits and licencing for events and activities ranging from scientific research to large scale charity running events.
As land managers of the nation’s public forest estate, we encourage people to connect with our amazing forest landscape. Responding to and understanding our customer’s and community needs, you will build trusting relationships with activity and event organisers, ensuring events and activities adhere to habitat regulations so that wildlife can thrive.
Effective and supportive team working with colleagues across our district is key to this role, enabling activities to fit around forestry operations and conservation projects, and guiding our customers through the permission administrative process through to permit issuance.
Partnership working and delivering through other organisations will also be at the core of what you will do, enabling access opportunities and activities to the widest range of people.
For effective working in this role, the successful applicant would need to be based at The King’s House in Lyndhurst for the majority of the working week initially. Due to changing IT systems, there may be the possibility of hybrid working later in the year, this can be discussed at interview stage.
