Job description

West London Coroner's Court is one of the busiest coronial jurisdictions in London, serving 6 boroughs. The court deals with approx. 3,500 referrals per year into unnatural or suspicious deaths. Hammersmith & Fulham Council is the lead borough for the coronial area and is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and competent individual to join the court support team.

You will assist with all aspects of Coroners Court administration including; general office tasks, in-person and remote ushering, support to the Coroner, meeting and greeting visitors, data entry, filing, copying and other ad-hoc tasks. Liaising with staff, Coroner's officers, funeral directors, bereaved families, jurors and other stakeholders you should have a friendly, empathetic and approachable manner. You must be sensitive to the needs of others and handle all situations with appropriate care and discretion.

This part-time role is office-based and you will be located at the Coroner's Court in Fulham. However, you may be required to work from other Council sites, if necessary. Due to the nature of the court listings schedule, where no week is the same, you may be required to work on different days each week. You will always work 12 days per month but the shift pattern may vary from one week to the next.

Role Responsibilities:

To assist with all aspects of Coroners Court administration. The role includes general office and Court administration assisting the business support team. You may be required to provide some Court ushering, meet and greet visitors, field queries from the public, filing, copying and other ad-hoc tasks.

1. Provide a friendly and professional welcome to visitors in a fast paced and busy environment.

2. Liaise with staff, Coroner’s officers, funeral directors, families, jurors and other stakeholders.

3. Field telephone calls: deal with queries or take messages.

4. Receive, open, sort, date stamp and distribute incoming mail and prepare outgoing mail, daily.

5. Follow instructions and complete tasks in a timely manner
