This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program for 8 weeks and may evolve into a permanent role for the right candidate.

Please note, this position is hybrid and the role requires at least one to two days per week in the Markham, ON office with the option to work from home for the rest. Access to the office involves climbing about 20 stairs. The building does not have an elevator. All candidates wishing to work from home must demonstrate they have a suitable home office with stable internet connection and telephone capabilities.

The opportunity: Working in QuickBooks Desktop Pro, you will work closely with the Director of Finance, the bookkeeper and our client services teams to provide accounting support. The Junior Accountant will be responsible for maintaining financial records and running reports for management and for clients.

You will perform the following:

ACCOUNT RECONCILIATION (Monthly)

· Support bookkeeper in reconciling bank accounts

· Reconcile large volume of corporate Amex charges and bill client charges back to clients as appropriate

· Reconcile corporate VISA and bill client charges back to clients as appropriate

· Reconcile and balance client charges against client chargebacks

· Enter and reconcile staff and management expenses requiring reimbursement

· Reconcile petty cash as needed

ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE

· Coordinate with client services team for detailed invoicing of clients ensuring all jobs are billed out

· Deposit cheques to corporate and client bank accounts using cheque scanner at the office

· Monitor aging of receivables and send regular reminder notices and follow ups while keeping management informed of the status of receivables

ACCOUNTS PAYABLE

· Enter corporate supplier invoices into QuickBooks ensuring correct job number coding

· Support bookkeeper with entering payables into Quickbooks Pro Desktop for 30+ client accounts

· Support bookkeeper in ensuring client payables are set up for timely payment based on a monthly authorization and payment cycle

REPORTING

· Coordinate with client service teams to generate monthly job profitability reports for management

· Generate monthly A/R reports for management with detailed information on actions and follow up status on overdue accounts

OTHER

· Assist with issue of client T4As after year-end

· Maintain filing of paper and electronic documents for corporate and client entities such that materials are available to the auditor as of each fiscal year-end

· Other tasks as may be assigned from time to time

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates must be between the ages of 15 and 30 and be eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs Program.
  • Diploma or degree in accounting
  • 1+ years’ experience in similar role
  • Experience with not-for-profit accounting is an asset
  • Enrolment with CPA Ontario/CPA Canada is an asset
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Proficiency in bookkeeping programs, spreadsheet programs and related software
  • Extremely trustworthy and professionally-minded
  • Strong business and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
