A little bit about what we are looking for...
We have recently merged 2 departments to support our expanding strategic focus on customers whilst creating new structures to support initiatives and offer succession planning and support for employees. As such we are looking for a new Assistant Service Charge Accountant to support this.
As the Assistant Service Charge Accountant, you will be working as part of a team with responsibility for the financial management of service charge income and costs. Working with the Service Charge Accountant and Service Charge Officers, assisting Budget Holders and the Home Budget Team to ensure all costs are correctly accounted for in our accounting and service charge systems and allocated to estates. With preparation of service charge budget estimates and year end statements.
We are happy to offer hybrid working with this role; You will be required to be in the office for around 2/3 days per week with the rest being from home, however please bear in mind we may need you to be in the office more within your probation and training. It's important to us that you feel fully ready and confident in the role before working from home. Of course if you'd prefer to be in the office more, then that is completely fine with us too!
This role can be also based at our Case House office, in Walton-on-Thames.
Your responsibilities...
- Responsibility for ensuring total service charge costs are reviewed on a regular basis and perform regular reviews of total service charge costs and work with other internal teams to ensure effective management of costs
- Assist the Service Charge Accountant with monthly accounting processes including journal entry, accruals and prepayments and reconciliations to ensure ledgers reflect operational performance. Investigate variances, prepare forecasts and report accordingly providing commentary to the management accounts team
- Prepare and review the annual cost budgets aggregating individual costs. Ensure overall costs are in line with contracts in place
- Preparation of core reconciliations
- Provide adhoc data analysis with commentary to support decision making
- Identify and resolve root cause issues to promote strong financials and data cleansing
- Support/drive the cyclical workload for budgets and year end statements to ensure deadlines are met
- Production of annual budgets on a scheme by scheme basis using the Service Charge Management System. Use analytical tools, knowledge and
- review of previous charges to ensure accuracy and the full recovery of costs
- Production of year end statements for variable service charges. Review of costs and liaison with other teams to calculate yearend adjustments. Working with auditors as required, updating tenant accounts, and mailing of information to residents
- Become proficient in Bluebox to ensure core deliverables can be met
- Maintain and develop a process for the service charge management system to ensure all new properties are entered in a timely fashion
- Develop and maintain an action log to ensure the continued development of Bluebox
- Develop systems and processes to ensure the team are working efficiently and effectively in delivery the outcomes
- Assist the team in problem solving and investigation into issues

Our ideal candidate...
- Experience of working in a service charge finance team within the social housing or private sector
- Experience of working in a finance environment with strict deadlines and in a highly regulated environment
- Experience of preparing management information KPI’s
- Knowledge service charges legislation, setting, and accounting
- Knowledge of the social housing regulatory framework as it applies to financial accounting
- Part qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA accountant
