Junior Accountant / Financial Services Assistant

Position Summary:
The ideal candidate profile for this position is someone who is a fast learner, love to help others, thrives in a dynamic, multicultural environment; possesses foundation knowledge of accounting and also a strong customer service focus and a “can do” attitude; this position provide growth opportunities for someone interested in pursuing CPA designation or Financial Planner in their career.
Reporting to the Financial Analyst, the person is responsible for daily accounting duties and customer services for Student Financial Services Department in compliance with the accepted accounting policies and practices of LaSalle College Vancouver.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Process daily deposits reconciliations for several business entities in Vancouver and Montreal
- Provide exceptional customer service and build positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including, but not limited to, the employees and students of LaSalle College Vancouver
- Follow up and respond to inquiries and/or questions in a timely manner
- Participate in all phases of the year-end close and annual audit
- Calculate, process and post tuition and fee charges
- Perform reconciliations including supplier statement reconciliations, credit card reconciliations
- Support other accounting and finance team members, inventory management, and cost accounting
- Reconciliation of accounts receivable ledger, bank accounts, foreign currency payments etc
- Processing of accruals, prepayments and subsequent journals
- Overseeing or assisting with the Fixed Assets Register
- Reconciliations including general Ledger and balance Sheet
- Other ad hoc accounting duties to support the broader team

Knowledge:
- Business Degree, with a major in Finance or Accounting
- Minimum 1 year transactional accounting experience
- Previous experience utilizing a variety of financial and/or accounting related software packages such as Sage 300
- Experience in customer services would be an asset
- Intermediate Excel skills and good knowledge of accounting principles
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Strong customer services skill
- Detailed orientated
- Understand the importance of confidentiality and demonstrate that proven ability in everything he/she does
- Comfortable interacting with students and employees on site and remotely
- Team player with a positive attitude and a strong work ethic
- High level of professionalism, diplomacy and tact
