THE JOB

Hy-Tech is looking for an Accountant to join our team. This is a great opportunity to learn about Hy-Tech’s domestic and foreign operations for future career development as the Hy-Tech Group continues to grow.

This is a full-time, temporary position with potential to convert to a full-time, permanent position after 6-months. The Accountant is responsible for domestic and international accounting functions. They will work with the Finance team to create reports and provide meaningful and clear analysis of financial data. Specifically, the Accountant will help ensure that company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles, complying with territorial legislation. The Accountant is responsible for ensuring all work is done in accordance with Hy-Tech procedures, following safe work practices, and always provides professional representation of Hy-Tech Drilling.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Reviewing/analyzing/reconciling general ledgers.
  • Preparing and entering journal entries, adjusting entries where required.
  • Assist in the preparation of month-end financial reports and year-end working papers.
  • Assist in the preparation of job costing reports.
  • Preparing and posting international foreign affiliate invoices, including sales of inventory, drill rentals, charging for reimbursement expenses and payroll, charging for other fees.
  • Reconciling foreign affiliate and domestic intercompany loan accounts monthly.
  • Help in reviewing foreign affiliate financial statements.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation for all financial transactions.
  • Assisting with the management of Capital Assets and Inventory General Leger accounts/listings.
  • Attending inventory counts.
  • Reviewing GST and PST returns that have been prepared by the bookkeeper.
  • Preparing US Sales tax returns in various states.
  • Research into different US state tax filing requirements.
  • Assisting to set up the company to do business in different states/countries/provinces.
  • Helping support the management of workers in foreign countries (namely filing special forms with CRA to reduce Canadian payroll taxes, tracking time spent, working with external accountant to ensure foreign tax credits claimed properly).
  • Making efforts to improve job costing.

THE SETTING

Ideally, this position will be based out of the global headquarters in Smithers, BC or the Branch location in Saskatoon, SK. Office work environment with some travel required.

  • Remote applications will also be considered from Victoria (BC) and Prince George (BC). There will be a requirement to travel to Smithers, BC to attend in person training.

THE SCHEDULE

  • Standard working hours are Monday to Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm, Monday-Friday.
  • There will also be some requirement to be available after hours and weekends during busy times.
  • 6-month termed contract with potential to convert to a permanent position.

WHAT YOU NEED

Education & Training

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with a CPA designation.
  • Experience working in public practice is an asset.
  • Experience working in the mining or the civil construction industry is preferred.
  • Project costing experience is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of existing and new federal, provincial, and international tax/legal requirements pertaining to accounting.
  • Experienced with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
  • Experience with NetSuite ERP accounting software is an asset.
  • Knowledge of IFRS would be an asset.
  • Strong computer skills, especially within Microsoft Office Suite, databases, spreadsheets, email and internet.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Record Check.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s Licence and must provide a current Driver’s Abstract on an annual basis.

Salary: $67,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
