The California State Lottery is looking to fill the role of a Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Specialist.

If you have experience in;
- Serving as an expert in GAAP, fiscal transactions and financial statements
- Reviewing financial reports inclusive of complex GAAP quarterly financial statements, balance sheets, statements of operations of cash flow and comprehensive account analyses and reconciliations.
- Have a strong desire to learn more and stay up to date on GAAP and other industry related changes and updates

Job Description and Duties
The GAAP Specialist proactively researches the latest accounting pronouncements and advises management of changes needed to comply with the standards. The AAI (Specialist) will apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to the Lottery's fiscal transactions and financial statements, and is responsible for monitoring the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), as well as guides and bulletins from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
Desirable Qualifications
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
- Broad knowledge of GAAP accounting
- Knowledge of accounting best practices and sources of accounting guidance such as FASB, GASB, and AICPA
- Ability to independently research new accounting pronouncements and provide recommendations to management on accounting treatments
- Ability to work cooperatively with cross-divisional staff as well as external stakeholders on projects related to implementing new accounting and reporting practices
- Strong knowledge of financial statement preparation including note disclosures
- Experience working with auditors
- Good communication and writing skills
- CPA license a plus, but not required
