Job summary
Are you looking to build your skills to progress further in the future? As an Apprentice with the Crown Prosecution Service you will have the opportunity to develop skills in the workplace.
At the CPS we are responsible for delivering justice through the independent and effective prosecution of crime. We are the principal prosecuting authority across England and Wales prosecuting criminal cases that have been investigated by the police and other investigative organisations.

Please note, the successful candidate will complete the Level 3 Assistant Accountant (AAT) apprenticeship with one study day per week. For more information on the apprenticeship, please see attached apprenticeship hub accountancy programmes document.
Role eligibility:
There is no upper age limit, anyone aged 16 years or older is eligible to apply.- Lived in the EEA/UK for 3+ years.
- Not in any other form of funded education or training (College or University).
- Does not have a qualification at the same level or above in a similar subject.
- If the candidate already does not have Maths and/or English at a grade 4 (C) or above, then you will be required to complete these functional skills alongside the apprenticeship.
Job description
Finance Support Admin - To deal with finance and accounting enquiries and routine correspondence received via the telephone or by e-mail professionally, effectively, and within agreed timescales.
Please note the below experience / technical skills are essential:
Ability to work well as part of a team.
Can communicate well and make use of technology where necessary to choose appropriate communication method.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Outlook and Microsoft Word.
Competent in the use of Microsoft Excel

To liaise effectively with colleagues in Business Centres and CPS Areas, and also external contacts such as HM Treasury, National Audit Office, and the CPS' commercial bankers.
To utilise Oracle and associated packages to respond to enquiries and provide reports and statistics to colleagues and other CPS departments.
To show sound judgement in dealing with finance and accounting enquiries from CPS colleagues and external suppliers. To monitor the accuracy of financial and non-financial data received into the team, challenging appropriately that which does not meet CPS finance, accounting or other specified policies, seeking guidance where necessary.
To prioritise work and manage time effectively so that team financial Key Performance Indicators are met.
To balance conflicting priorities where necessary, ensuring all tasks are completed to a high standard within the specified deadlines.
To promptly identify potential problems and present suggested solutions to line manager.
To provide a professional service to both internal and external contacts ensuring that finance and accounting information and advice is provided in an organised and professional manner.
To be proactive in carrying out designated tasks to a high standard within the team’s specified deadlines.
To develop and maintain financial administrative systems to ensure efficient management of work assignments and projects.
To maintain the integrity of accounting records by carrying out data input and analysis using various IT packages, particularly Microsoft Excel.

Selection process details
The recruitment process will consist of an online numerical test which is to be completed before submitting your application. The deadline to complete the online numerical test is 31st August at 23:55pm. The recruitment process then includes an application which will have to be submitted by 1st September 2023 at 23:55pm and virtual interview which will take place via Microsoft Teams and will be held between W/C 18th September 2023.

Contracted Weekly Working Hours
