Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Registered Children's Nurse with significant safeguarding experience related to children and young adults to be part of the Trust wide Safeguarding Team at UHB.
Leading the children's safeguarding team at UHB , the post holder will be responsible for providing visible leadership, knowledge, expertise and supervision in relation to safeguarding children The post holder will provide core specialist child advice to staff and will lead on areas of expertise and development across UHB
The successful candidate will be required to work with multi-professional colleagues from across the Trust and external partner organisations, including primary care, the Local Authority and other partner agencies.
Experience of leading change utilising continuous improvement methodologies and influencing practice, as well as working in multi-professional teams and across organisational boundaries is essential, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
The successful candidate will undertake the statutory role as Named Nurse for Safeguarding at University Hospitals Birmingham in accordance with the role and competencies outlined within 'Working Together to Safeguard Children' (2018) and RCPCH Intercollegiate (2019) guidance.
The post holder will provide expert, effective leadership by setting, monitoring and maintaining robust safeguarding arrangements and training programmes
The postholder will lead on collaborative multi-agency working, contributing to safeguarding governance and providing assurance that the Trust fulfils the requirements of a children's safeguarding service
The post holder will be supported by the Director of Safeguarding and will work alongside the Lead Nurse for Safeguarding Adults, and Team Leads for Safeguarding Adults and Children as part of the safeguarding leadership team

NMC Registered RSCN/RN
Relevant healthcare degree or relevant management experience
Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to post.

Extensive knowledge of the speciality portfolio service provision across service areas and information management systems.
Demonstrable appreciation of the relationship between the Department of Health, NHS England and individual provider and commissioning organisations.
Demonstrates breadth and depth of understanding of current NHS policy and ability to interpret and implement in practice.
Clear understanding of the concept and working arrangements of diverse clinical areas, health and social care partners and local councils, including those within Primary, Secondary and Tertiary care, or charitable/voluntary services & community leaders.
Can demonstrate a working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, the concept of Clinical Governance, Quality Improvement and evidence-based practice associate with the portfolio.
Can demonstrate working knowledge of relevant statue, intercollegiate guidance, literature, research and legislation relating to quality and safety of patient care. with a clear understanding and knowledge of National Policy directives/ changes associated with Safeguarding.
Able to think strategically and translate vision for local service into delivery by collaboration and partnership.
Track record of success in the management of significant changes and innovation with demonstrable results.
Possess confident leadership, management and communication & presentation skills.
Possess resilience and determination is flexible and adaptable - can work at pace and under non-negotiable timescales when needed.
Possess excellent time-management skills and ability to work on own initiative and where required as part of a senior team.
