Job description
YouTube Video Editor
£38,000 - £45,000 per annum
The James Hoffmann YouTube channel is looking for an experienced video editor to join the team full time. With 1.75M subscribers, the channel is a well-established source of factual entertainment that shares James Hoffmann’s unique knowledge of all things coffee.
The ideal candidate will be a self-reliant professional who is comfortable working without the support of an assistant editor and able to collaborate within a small production team. You will likely have worked as a main editor for several years already.
The Role
As the channel’s video editor, you will be responsible for delivering 3-4 YouTube videos from start to finish per month, from raw footage to final production. This will include the following:
- Reviewing footage and assembling all rough and final cuts, ideally in Final Cut Pro, within the designated time frame.
- Providing input during pre-production to contribute and aid delivery of the final vision for each project.
- Providing feedback to production crew to ensure footage meets technical standards and to ease the overall production workflow.
- Taking ownership of data handling and storage.
- Ensuring the final product matches both the brief for the particular video and general style of the channel.
- Reviewing edits in collaboration with the rest of the team and implementing requested changes.
- Contributing to the creation of social edits, thumbnails and other assets by suggesting and sourcing video and stills.
- Contributing to motion graphics, captions, audio mix and colouring, where skills allow.
- Assisting with videography and capture, on occasion.
Production schedules can be fast-paced. While it is unlikely that you will be working on multiple edits at the same time, you should be comfortable with overlaps between the post-production phase of one video and the pre-production stages of others.
For this role, you will be required to work in the London-based studio at West Hackney/Lower Clapton, but there is an option for hybrid working.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced, creative and self-reliant video editor who is able to help create factual content that emphasises compelling story-telling and quality.
- You will have proven experience as a video editor, with a strong portfolio of previous work. Ideally, you will have worked in main editing roles for more than five years.
- You will feel comfortable managing the entire editing process, without the support of an assistant editor.
- You will be able to communicate and collaborate well with a small production team and help to ensure a smooth process from start to finish.
- You will be diligent with regard to data handling and storage.
- Ideally, you will have expertise in Final Cut Pro. For the right candidate, DaVince Resolve or Adobe Premiere Pro are acceptable.
- You will have experience editing for factual entertainment. This is not the right role for someone with a background in TV drama and film.
- You will be able to work to a fast-paced production schedule and meet tight deadlines.
- You’ll be someone who understands the challenges and benefits of working in a small creative team. Ideally, you’re excited by the flexibility, responsibility and room for growth that this setting provides.
- Last but not least, you will find coffee fun and interesting!
Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.
Expected start date: Immediate start available for the right candidate.
