The CFB has enjoyed a tremendous arc of progress over its 30-year history, and our updated flagship small donor democracy program is the centerpiece of this progress. We eliminate barriers to participation by providing access to the resources New Yorkers need to vote or run for office and amplify the voices of small donors with New York City’s small donor democracy program. NYC Votes is an initiative of the New York City Campaign Finance Board (CFB), a nonpartisan, independent agency, that aims to inform New Yorkers about elections and boost their civic participation in the democratic process. The NYC Votes Partnership and Outreach team works to build partnerships across the city to disseminate information and conduct direct-to-voter outreach. In the 2021 NYC Mayoral Election, only 11.1% of New Yorkers aged 18-29 turned out to vote. In the Bronx, only 4% of eligible 16- and 17-year-olds are pre-registered to vote. NYC Votes seeks to increase civic participation among young New Yorkers through the implementation of a Peer-to-Peer Model of civics. The team is seeking a Youth Engagement Coordinator to report to the Youth Programs Manager. This role will play a critical role in enhancing our civic engagement education and empowerment training for youth across New York City, with a focus on young people ages 14 to 24 years old. The Youth Engagement Coordinator will work closely with community-based organizations (CBOs), academic institutions, libraries, schools, and other youth-centered groups to deliver civic education and training opportunities. The role will also support the Partnerships and Outreach team in building and maintaining strong internal systems to organize and track partnership development. The Youth Engagement Coordinator will report to the Youth Programs Manager on the Partnerships and Outreach team. They will identify and forge relationships with key stakeholders, primarily with youth-focused city agencies, CBOs, schools, and college campuses to increase youth voter turnout. The Youth Engagement Coordinator will be expected to travel independently to deliver NYC Votes civic engagement curriculum to priority youth audiences. Moreover, this person will also support the Youth Programs Manager in the administration and implementation of our flagship NYC Votes Youth Ambassador Program. We are looking for someone energized about on-the-ground community engagement with strong project management and organizational skills. We seek to work with someone passionate about making the voting process inclusive for young New Yorkers. Ideally, this candidate is aware or interested in deepening their understanding of how racism, ableism, classism, or other oppressions specifically impact young New Yorkers and show up in the voting process. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Youth Programs Operations Under the guidance of the Youth Programs Manager, develop and implement youth outreach strategy with emphasis on a Train the Trainer model. Work with the Youth Programs Manager to identify new and existing contacts and develop an outreach plan to reach and support city agencies, community boards, libraries, schools, college campuses, and other city-affiliated organizations. Serve as the primary liaison between these partner organizations and the Campaign Finance Board (CFB) as it relates to delivering requested resources and materials, scheduling and delivering educational sessions, conducting follow-up, etc. Deliver printed and online election materials to city agencies, community boards, libraries, schools, and other city-affiliated organizations. Serve as the point person for partner organizations as it relates to election-related updates and questions. Train young New Yorkers in voter registration and civics. Provide administrative support through managing email communications, organizing documents, and carrying out other internal processes. Send out both the monthly youth and educator newsletters to a listserv of over 7,000 contacts. Educational Training and Workshop Delivery If safe, travel to sites across the city to meet deliver trainings, meet with community stakeholders, and serve as a source of credible information for communities across NYC. Weeknight and weekend travel is required, and overtime is available. Plan youth-focused events in priority neighborhoods with strategic partner organizations to increase youth civic participation. Deliver Train the Trainer programs to young New Yorkers and support youth in planning/hosting their own voter mobilization events. Support the Youth Programs Manager in the development, hiring, and implementation of the NYC Votes Youth Ambassador Program. Develop various methods to collect and incorporate audience feedback. Work with the Marketing and Digital Communications team to update trainings and resources to ensure they are up-to-date with election information and tailored to specific audience needs. Participate in events hosted by partner organizations and promote civic engagement opportunities. Research and Resources Support content creation by providing engagement ideas for outreach on digital platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok) and fieldwork. Coordinate website updates to reflect youth initiatives, resources, and messaging. Work with the Youth Programs Manager and Content Team to incorporate youth voice in programming and communications, including for a youth-focused and teacher/educator email list. Curate external-facing reports and resources that support community organizations to organize young people to vote. Provide resources to relevant organizations that support youth voter engagement. Organization and Tracking Support the maintenance of internal team structure, including identifying areas of improvement, creating processes for coordinating, and generally helping to keep things organized. Develop and maintain up-to-date youth partnership data across the Partnerships and Outreach team. Work with Senior Partnerships Manager to maintain consistent tracking of partner data, including contact information, meeting notes, organizational tags, listserv maintenance, etc. Build mass communication plans to reach all partner organizations (i.e. newsletter, election updates, etc.) Work with Senior Partnerships Manager to develop metrics and measures of success for education delivery; create reports and tools to assess impact. Propose and implement new ideas or processes to manage and maintain a strong partner portfolio. Model our core values of Purpose, Curiosity, Creativity, and Collaboration. Minimum Qualifications 1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by at least twelve semester credits (or the equivalent of twelve semester credits) in accounting, auditing, business or public administration, computer science, economics, finance, statistics, graphic design, personnel or human resources administration, user experience design, or a closely related area of study and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in accounting, auditing (including compliance or investigative auditing), business or public administration, business analysis, computer science, database administration, economics, finance, fiscal or economic management or research, statistics, graphic design, personnel or human resources administration, user experience design, or a closely related field; or 2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of experience as described in “1” above; or 3. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” above. Preferred Skills - Experience working with diverse communities, especially youth of any age. - Existing relationships in the New York City local government space, including with agencies, community-based groups, libraries, etc. - Existing engagement in the New York City community, including local businesses, libraries, advocacy or volunteer groups, etc. - Ability to understand and communicate in one or more of the following languages: Arabic, American Sign Language (ASL), Bengali, Cantonese, Haitian Creole, Hindi, Korean, Mandarin, Polish, Punjabi, Spanish, Russian, or Urdu. - Strong project management skills - Experience organizing or facilitating presentations and workshops for diverse audiences - Willingness to travel independently to deliver presentations, participate in speaking engagements, etc. sometimes outside of regular working hours.
