JOB PURPOSE:
Reporting directly to the Director, Marketing & Communications, you will work closely with the team to ensure that all content aligns seamlessly with The York School's strategic objectives, mission, vision, and values. Your exceptional storytelling abilities will captivate our audience, leaving a lasting impression and inspiring others to engage with our mission of excellence in education. - Conducts research, interviews, writes and edits a variety of materials in support of the School and cross-organizational needs and assists in the creation of copy, using multiple “voices”, destined for media, general public consumption, internal and external stakeholders
- Collaborate with internal departments to collate and edit communication materials and copy to support School programs, including weekly School messages, Family Handbook, newsletters, articles, announcements, and other collateral
- Work in close collaboration with the other members of the Marketing & Communication team on the implementation of the strategic Marketing & Communications plan to support School priorities
- Ensure communications are consistent and inline with brand guidelines across all marketing and communication channels
- Researches and scans the media to bring timely, relevant, sector information to The York School leadership for information and/or action
- Development of corporate communication resources (writing guidelines, key messages, boilerplates, etc.)
- Develop fundraising proposals and campaign materials as needed
- Prepares speaking notes for major donors as well as senior and executive leadership for events, speaking engagements and cultivation initiatives
- Supports issues management communications plans as needed and play a role in the School’s efforts to anticipate, identify and address potential threats to reputational health
- Works on special projects, as needed, to conduct in-depth research into emerging stories and/or investigate media queries to The York School to determine reputational threats and/or concerns
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, Public Relations or a related area
- 5+ years of experience in writing, developing copy and implementing corporate communication strategies and plans
- Impeccable writing, listening, editing and communications skills with proven ability to communicate succinct, impactful content
- Has expertise on all social media platforms and tools
- Has excellent attention to detail, project management, organizational skills
- Manages issues in a calm/solutions-oriented manner
- Displays a high degree of confidentiality when handling sensitive information
- Strong ability to work as part of a collaborative team
- Ability to interact with students, parents and teachers cheerfully, enthusiastically, courteously, patiently and with discretion
- A proactive team player who is flexible and self-motivated with a “How can I help?” attitude
- Proficiency in a technologically rich school environment, and skilled in Google Workspace
