Workshop Supervisor, Bicycle Maintenance
HMP Five Wells, Wellingborough, NN8 2NG
£27,500 per annum
Full Time, permanent, 40 hours per week

HMP Five Wells in Wellingborough is setting a gold standard for new build prisons of the future, using forward-thinking design and technology. The Prison is the UK’s first purpose-built, peer-led resettlement Prison. A one of a kind new generation category C new build Prison for the future; HMP Five Wells is fast becoming an integral part of the local community.
We are now looking for a workshop supervisor with knowledge or a strong interest in the bike repair industry to join our Activities Function at HMP Five Wells in Wellingborough. You will be working closely with Prisoners on a daily basis and will coordinate workshop activities in line with Prison regime requirements, developing the prisoner’s skills and supporting them through qualifications. The people in your care will have a variety of different needs and it will be your role to ensure those individuals are treated with dignity and respect and helped to find a new way of life whilst maintaining a safe, secure and structured environment.
Enthusiastic and passionate about making a difference, our Workshop Instructors are integral to support the prisoners in their work areas, we have an array of workshops that will be led by a workshop supervisors.
It would be ideal if you had a strong interest or previous experience and knowledge in a bicycle repair setting, whether professionally or as a hobby.
All required training will be provided, and upskilling to further develop your knowledge and skill set will also be provided. In addition, opportunities to upskill will be given to support wider workshops and develop any creative interests you may have in other areas, for example, engineering, carpentry, textiles, catering, etc.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and control prisoners within the workshops so that the good order of the prison is maintained.
- Maintain prisoner attendance levels at optimum numbers so that efficiency is obtained at all times.
- Complete and return regime monitoring documentation so that accurate statistics can be produced.
- Assist in the planning and organising of the product workflow to achieve optimum performance of the workshop.
- Maintain effective work systems, ensuring that all correspondence and documentation is dealt with in a professional manner that meets audit requirements.
- Monitor all areas of the workshop to ensure they are kept clean, tidy and presentable and are operating in accordance with appropriate Health & Safety procedures.
- Check that all tools or stores items including consumables are accounted for at all times so that security is maintained.
- Ensure the maintenance of security within the prison environment by compliance with security instructions.
- Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & following the applicable safe systems of work for the role.
