WordPress Developer Somerset

ADLIB
Full Time Somerset 30000 - 40000 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

  • Create bespoke websites for an interesting mix of clients: local start-ups, schools and global corporates.
  • Friendly team, weekly team lunches, and an office dog – or remote working if that’s more your bag.
  • Tech includes: WordPress, WooCommerce, HTML, CSS, SASS, JavaScript.

This digital agency in Somerset is known for getting that perfect balance of style and substance. The Founder knows the agency world well. Having worked in agencies for several years, he took the leap to go it alone, building a strong reputation and gaining a wide range of contacts and clients. In the last couple of years, he recruited another developer and they’ve moved into a studio space surrounded by a hub of other creatives. It’s a social and friendly community, so there are plenty of people to bounce ideas around with.

They’re looking for a WordPress Developer to join the team to support their growth as they continue to go from strength to strength. You’ll be working closely with the Founder (who is hands-on) and one other developer to design and build lean, well-optimised, and fast custom websites for businesses of all shapes and sizes. It's a full-time role, but part-time hours will be considered.

What skills will you need:

  • At least 1 year of commercial experience building custom WordPress websites (including custom WP themes and plugins), although 2-3 years experience would be ideal.
  • Confident with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, SASS, JavaScript).
  • Familiarity with WooCommerce to develop eCommerce websites.
  • Knowledge of security, website performance best practices.
  • An understanding of core web concepts and working knowledge of version control tools.
  • Strong communication skills and someone who is proactive, supportive and collaborative.

Bonus points for…

  • Any previous agency environment experience.
  • Experience or knowledge of Tailwind CSS, WordPress REST API, or Webpack.
  • Technical SEO understanding.

What you’ll be doing:

Despite being a small team, they are leading their local market and picking up most of their new clients through organic searches and recommendations. These range from local businesses and start-ups to global corporates across industries including adventure travel, media production, eCommerce, insurance, and an award-winning restaurant - to name just a few! Combining beautiful designs with an intuitive editing experience, the custom WordPress websites you build will enable clients to easily update and manage pages themselves, although you’ll provide ongoing support as required.

To make things even more interesting, there is also a sister company that creates websites specifically for the education sector and they’re in the process of signing up a Multi-Academy Trust made up of 20 schools. Projects range from simple pre-school websites, to more complex projects that include events booking, eCommerce functionality, and more. As this continues to gain momentum you’ll get involved with this too.

You’ll be a key part of the success of the company; your views, suggestions and ideas will be highly valued. If you’re happy to come into their Somerset-based studio from time to time for in-person collaboration that would be great, but they’ll consider full-time remote working for experienced candidates

What you’ll get in return for your talents:

In return you’ll get a starting of £30k-£40k DOE, 28 days holiday including Bank Holidays plus an additional day to celebrate your birthday, flexible working, socials, and Friday team lunches. There’s a laid back, friendly and informal feel to the studio and there’s an added bonus of an office dog who is there every day!

There are plans to grow the team, so you’ll be joining at a point where there’s plenty of opportunity to carve out a role that suits your skills and areas of interest, with longer-term opportunities to coach/mentor others if you wish.

What’s next?

Like the sound of this one? Send in your CV or get in touch with Sky if you have any questions. If you’ve got them, please also share links to your portfolio or Github account too.

There’s a one stage interview process which will be held with the Founder and carried out either in-person or over video call depending on your location.
