Woodland Creation Officer Scunthorpe, England

North Lincolnshire Council
Full Time Scunthorpe, England 25409 - 28371 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Woodland cover in North Lincolnshire extends to just 5%, significantly lower than average tree coverage compared to the rest of England. As part of its response to the climate and biodiversity emergencies, North Lincolnshire Council has committed to planting 172,000 trees increasing woodland cover in the area.

The Council is seeking a self-motivated, experienced and organised person, who specialises in woodland creation, to join its multi-disciplinary Natural & Historic Environment Team. In the role you will co-ordinate the delivery of woodland creation on land in and around the North Lincolnshire area.

To effectively carry this out, you will act as a strong advocate for woodland creation within the Council and adopt a positive approach when interacting with external partners, landowners and the public to build effective relationships and team working; whilst being able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.

You will be required to demonstrate extensive woodland creation experience with a proven track record in successful project management. Experience writing and delivering Forestry Commission approved grant applications is also a must, as well as previous volunteer and contractor engagement and the delivery of tree planting schemes experience.

An understanding of the issues and challenges in urban forestry as well as knowledge of landscape scale approaches to the protection and enhancement of natural heritage is also required.

A full driving licence and/or the ability to travel around the North Lincolnshire area is essential.

Joining our progressive and welcoming team will bring a range of benefits, including:
  • A competitive salary
  • A comprehensive induction
  • Excellent CPD opportunities
  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • Salary sacrifice scheme
  • Agile working arrangements (we will consider requests for permanent homeworking from applicants who reside in other parts of the country).

Please note this is fixed-term, temporary post for 2 years.

If you are interested in joining us to achieve better outcomes for our residents and communities and would like an informal discussion about this role, please contact Andrew Taylor, Natural Environment Policy Specialist on 01724 297860.
