Petersham Nurseries Richmond are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Wine Waiter to join our Team in the Restaurant.
As a wine waiter, you will be working alongside our expert Head Sommelier and Assistant Head Sommelier, as well as our sister business Petersham Cellar. Petersham Nurseries outsources wines from some of the leading wine suppliers in the country as well as importing wines directly from Italy.
A position that aims to assist the growth into the wine world and the wider restaurant service.
Supervised by the other Sommeliers you will assist with the service, ordering and suggestion of wines and to ad-doc food service.
Principal Accountabilities
Overview
- Ability to maintain high levels of customer service
- Daily opening, closing and cashing up responsibilities
- Collect and carry stock (a driving license is desirable)
- Create and update the wine list in coordination with Head Sommelier
- Ensure wines are served at the right temperature and within the proper glassware
- Recommend food and wine pairings
- Flexibility to learn about wine and to be able to look after costumer food need
Operations
Support in ensuring the department is properly stocked with the correct working equipment, regularly maintained, in good working order and complies with safety regulations.
- Make sure new deliveries are stored immediately and update on the wine and inventory list
- Keep wine cellar tidy and in order
- Ensure that all operating standards are adhered to in order to achieve maximum levels of service and profitability
- Contribute and champion sales and service strategy for all beverages and wine list items.
- Leading by example instil a culture of exceptional customer service.
- Ensure all customer feedback is dealt with in a timely and appropriate manner to promote and grow the good reputation of the business
- Celebrate positive customer feedback and great results
- Collaborate on regular tastings and pre-shift briefings to ensure service consistency and knowledge standards
- Ensure grooming standards adhered to, both personally and by the team, reflecting a professional image
Personal Qualities:
- Minimum WSET level 2 or equivalent required
- Good grasp of English language
- Thrive working alongside a passionate team
- Passion and enthusiasm to learn
