Job description

As the Welcome & Service Assistant, it’s your role to ensure that every aspect of our visitor’s experience is going to be a delight! We welcome enthusiastic flexible people who are willing to support one another across the whole portfolio, to ensure cover is available during holidays, training etc.

Duration: Fixed term contract for two years, until 31st January 2025.

The Hours: 1176 hours to be worked over a year. This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month will vary, however your salary will be paid in 12 equal instalments over the year . You will be required to work weekends, bank holidays and school holidays.

The Salary: £9.90 per hour, rising in April.


What it's like to work here:Over the past four years, the visitor experience at this grand gothic revival house has been transformed by introducing a year-round programme of events, activities and entertainment. The ambitious 40-member team has further plans to grow and develop Knightshayes’ visitor offer and welcome creative customer-focused people to join the team. The property has one of the finest gardens in Devon with a vast plant collection and walled garden which supplies produce to the estate’s Stables Café.

What you'll be doing:As the largest conservation charity in Europe we work hard to raise funds, so that we can continue to care for all the heritage in our trust. Visitors are a vital part of what we do, so you’ll be responsible for ensuring that you provide an excellent service to all our visitors, every day. As a Welcome & Service Assistant, it’s your role to ensure that the welcome our visitors receive is perfect, setting them up for an amazing experience for the rest of the day.

You’ll be responsible for answering queries and making sure visitors can find everything they need for their visit. Understanding how and why we engage our supporters is key. Working with our spirit of place you’ll work with the visitor welcome team to link everything we do back to our cause and the on-going work we do.

You’ll deliver high standards of presentation at the property, and ensure all our communications with our visitors are clear and consistent, from the first click on the website, to the posters and signs around the property.
