Job Purpose

We are looking for an experienced Website Developer with 5+ years of WordPress experience, an eye for detail and a passion for building websites the right way.

We have five main web sites:

todaydigital.com- Main Company Website

As a digital-first tech news business, technology and innovation underpin our growth and due to our continued expansion and growing customer portfolio, we’re seeking a self-motivated, creative web developer to join our team.

We need someone who knows WordPress inside out, with excellent WordPress development skills and adept with HTML5, CSS3, jQuery and PHP. Experience with Adobe XD, Photoshop and Illustrator is also an advantage.

You'll know PHP well, confidently able to go deep in customising themes and building plugins. You'll share our love of simplicity, helping us to maintain a superfast and efficient UX.

On top of that, it's vital that you can apply those skills to creating sharp, modern layouts on the web. You don't need to be a graphic designer, but the perfect candidate will be able to create amazing looking layouts and page designs.

An interest in delivering a first-class UX is a must, and you'll be absolutely obsessed about creating a website that's easy to use, intuitive and that draws the reader in, from page to page. A big part of your job will be testing new layouts and new elements, to help our users find what you're looking for and to take action.

The Role

Our WordPress based websites reaches all corners of the world and we have an audience that grows by the day. We need someone to help develop the features and exciting ideas we have to build a community that knows and trusts us. Building new features, contributing to the build of new WordPress websites and plugins, testing, debugging and fixing issues. You will need to have skills in WordPress, PHP, HTML, CSS HTML and JavaScript(jQuery). All of our WordPress builds are custom themes using plugins like ACF, Gravity Forms and Yoast SEO (among others).

Responsibilities

As a WordPress Developer for Today Digital, general duties and responsibilities include:

  • Follow internal coding practices to deliver high-quality code
  • Be honest and open about your work and eager to learn new concepts
  • Have a say in scoping and planning projects
  • Take ownership of developing websites from start to finish
  • Contribute to our documentation and processes to help drive the whole company
  • Monitor and optimise our websites for best performance
  • Developing new features and functionality into our news and events platforms
  • Setup and development of new sites
  • Maintenance of current sites, testing and debugging
  • Discovery of plugins and APIs to further add value to the overall admin and user experience

Core Skills

To be considered you must have experience of the following:

  • Experience with custom WordPress Theme Development from scratch
  • Experience with Responsive Design
  • HTML5, CSS and JavaScript(jQuery)
  • Basic PHP Programming Skills
  • Experience with ACF Pro
  • Create and maintain MySQL databases
  • Understanding of search engines (Google Analytics 4, Data Studio, Search Console etc)
  • Good written and oral communication skills

Equipment Requirements

This is a home working role that requires you to provide some of your own equipment;

  • Broadband Internet (minimum 10 Mbps download / 2 Mbps Upload)
  • Office desk and chair
  • A suitable place to work that is noise and distraction free, warm and comfortable, and has a reliable electricity supply.

*Company supplied equipment includes: PC Computer, web camera, headset/speaker. All necessary software applications and licences.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £30,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
