Job description
Water Resources Engineer - ( 21000300 )
Description
Many of the world’s top engineers and scientists come together in our Water business because they view a community’s interaction with water a bit differently—as a single holistic system, rather than unconnected networks divided by jurisdictional boundaries. Working throughout the hydrologic cycle, we are delivering sustainable solutions to make sure water is where it should be and available when needed. Our experts guide our work with scientific rigor, an innovative spirit, and a vision for growth. Every day, we help communities improve, reuse, and protect this precious resource for future generations. By 2025 we’re hiring 2,000 people (like you) to join our team. Grow with us, H2O+U.
Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking an experienced water resources engineer/modeler to join our multidisciplinary team in Sacramento, California. You will apply and grow your understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, water quality, and/or water system operations to help answer our clients’ water resource management questions.
We’re looking for inquisitive professionals who are passionate about water and bring experience in hydrologic and hydraulic studies using cutting-edge technical approaches and analytical tools. Our Water Resources team in Sacramento tackles the State’s water problems from drought resilience to climate change vulnerability. Our projects assess water supply reliability and quality, water transfers, conjunctive use of surface and groundwater supplies, groundwater recharge and recovery, surface water storage, reservoir operations, flood management, water quality and salt management, hydropower resources, river restoration and flow regime, fish passage, and more.
Are you ready to advance your career with a collaborative team that puts people first, lives its corporate values, and works on some of the most challenging water projects in the world? Join us.
Your Key Responsibilities
As part of our analytical team, you will help formulate technical approaches and conduct analyses to answer key questions about how we can best manage our limited water resources. This includes:
- Hydrologic and hydraulic analyses of watersheds and water systems to estimate rainfall runoff and flow conditions under existing and future conditions.
- Analysis of the impacts of different climate change scenarios on watersheds and flows, water system operations, and water supplies.
- Evaluation of the impacts of proposed new water infrastructure (reservoirs, groundwater banks, conveyance facilities, etc.), water system operational changes, and water policy changes on water supplies, water quality, hydropower, and river flows.
- Evaluation of river flow conditions to meet a variety of needs, including environmental, municipal and industrial, agricultural, recreational, energy, and others.
- Analysis of water resources management issues and infrastructure at local, regional, and statewide scales.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Knowledge of California water facilities, programs, and operations, such as those related to the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, CVP/SWP system, and/or reservoirs, canals, and other water management facilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical issues to varied audiences.
- Geographically based in California or willingness to relocate.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in civil/environmental engineering, water resources engineering, hydrology, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- 3 or more years of relevant professional experience in water resources studies and analysis (we are hiring at multiple experience levels).
- Experience using and interpreting the outputs of analytical tools commonly used in water resources management studies, such as CALSIM/WRIMS, WEAP, MODFLOW, HEC-suite, MicroFEM, and others.
- Professional certification/registration (PE, PH, CFM, etc.) in appropriate area of expertise.
Overqualified? Underqualified? We have multiple positions open – don’t hesitate to apply and meet our team!
