Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a junior to mid-level Engineer to join our Virginia Beach, VA office. We are seeking a motivated, achievement-oriented individual who can help us fulfill our commitment to deliver client success on each and every project we undertake. This is an exciting opportunity to participate in stormwater/water/wastewater projects.

This role will be based out of our Virginia Beach, VA office with opportunities to have a hybrid work schedule.

Detailed Description:

In this role, you will work with and be mentored by nationally recognized, senior technical staff. Our ideal candidate will have strong verbal and written communication skills, be highly organized and capable of working in a diverse team environment and handling multiple tasks with competing priorities.

  • Provide civil engineering support for a variety of projects which may include planning, evaluation, design and construction related activities for wastewater, water and stormwater conveyance systems, pumping systems, stormwater flooding and water quality, resilience, and related facilities.
  • Perform engineering work in various engineering fields (such as wastewater, water, infrastructure, etc.)
  • Assist with environmental studies, permitting, alternatives analyses, and other technical deliverables
  • Execute activities on projects for planning and design of stormwater/water/wastewater conveyance systems, as well as engineering services during construction.
  • Perform analysis, calculations, research, selection, and layout, necessary to develop required new installation and rehabilitation design documents.
  • Serve as a key member of teams for the evaluation and design of existing and proposed water and wastewater pumping stations.
  • Work on engineering designs preparing reports, construction plans, specifications, calculations, equipment selection, and cost estimates for various projects
  • Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications through field inspection and testing
  • Assist with the preparation of technical memoranda, reports and electronic deliverables
  • Assist with studies and alternative analysis
  • Assist with biological modeling of secondary treatment processes
  • Develop understanding of regulatory and permitting requirements for a variety of jurisdictions
  • Assist with development of permitting plans and permit applications
  • Duties may also include field activities such as site investigations
  • Data collection, manipulation, analysis, and documentation
  • Work collaboratively with groups across the Area and Company

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • BS degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or related field required; MS degree preferred
  • Minimum three years of professional related experience with stormwater/water/wastewater related projects
  • EIT required; PE preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite including Word, Outlook, Project, Excel and PowerPoint is required.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D and hydraulic modeling platforms preferred
  • Experience using engineering calculation software (MathCAD, MATLAB) preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment
  • Must be able to successfully manage and deliver on multiple tasks with competing priorities
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required
  • Ability to travel to and access field sites of various sizes that may have areas of uneven, muddy, and/or rocky ground and wadable waterbodies that may have steep and/or slippery banks to perform field work
  • Ability to work for short periods of time in extreme temperatures including heat and cold
  • Ability to wear required safety equipment at sites including hard hats, steel toed boots (or other approved toe protection), etc.
  • Ability to remain alert and vigilant while working in the field and be able to walk swiftly for a short distance to clear an area where a potential hazard is identified

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $68,000 - $92,000
