What will you do on a day to day basis?

Nottingham City Council is looking for Public Realm Operatives to collect household waste bins throughout the City, on a fixed-term basis during our garden waste collection season.

The Council's garden waste collection season runs from April - November each year, with full a service operating from April to September, reducing by 50% to run for just two weeks in October and two weeks in November.

While the successful candidate will primarily be performing garden waste collections, Public Realm Operatives must be able to work flexibly and may occasionally need to cover on recycling or residual waste collections or perform other related cleansing duties.

What hours will you work?

You will work an average of 37 hours per week, usually from Monday to Friday, although your weekly hours may occasionally vary to meet the needs of the service.

As part of your fixed-term, annualised hours contract, you will also be expected to work some weekends to help the service cover occasions such as Bank Holidays.

What will you get for your Hard Work?

Salary - up to £21,189 in year one, rising to £21,575 after a year's service (pro-rata for part time or fixed-term workers).

Holidays – 25 to 33 days of annual leave pro-rata, plus public holidays, with the option to purchase additional leave through the MoreTime salary sacrifice scheme.

Pension - After 3 months of service, council employees are automatically enrolled into the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Sick Pay - Council employees are entitled to receive Statutory Sick Pay and additional sick pay in line with the council's Sick Pay policy.

You must meet these essential requirements to apply for this position:

  • Must be physically fit and capable of working outside in all weather conditions, with the ability to walk up to 15 miles per day and maintain a long period of physical effort.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours on an annualised hours basis; working longer or shorter hours across different weeks to meet service needs, including occasional weekend working to cover Bank Holidays.
  • Must have a good understanding and/or knowledge of working in a customer-focused environment, and possess customer care skills to deal with residents of Nottingham on a daily basis.
