Job description
A vacancy has arisen for a Warehouse Assistant & Van Driver at its Book Storage Facility (BSF) in Swindon. The BSF is a high density storage facility housing the Libraries’ collections. Readers in libraries across the University order items from the facility and these are delivered on the same or next day. Items are retrieved and refiled from racking locations using wire guided Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) forklift trucks.
As a Warehouse Assistant & Van Driver, you will support the operations of the BSF by flexibly performing a variety of tasks in response to customer demand. This will include operating manual handling equipment (i.e. High Level Order Pickers and Low Level Order Pickers), retrieving and refilling material in the warehouse, processing material in the Ancillary Building for dispatch and return, inputting data and scanning documents on request. In addition to this, you will be required to deliver the material to Oxford on occasion in a van driver capacity (weekly and to cover absences).
You will have previous experience of warehouse operations, have the ability to operate manual handling equipment and be comfortable working at height using a variety of methods including a High Level Order Picker as well as a full clean driving licence. Please specify your driving license status in your application. Attention to detail is essential in order to locate items according to a numerical sequence as well as computer skills and operating company-based software. You will also have a customer-focused aptitude, a “can do” flexible approach to work and be willing to work as part of a team.
This is a permanent, full-time position, working 36.5 hours per week between 12pm-8pm, Monday-Friday. This role will require you to carry out some heavy lifting and working at height.
As a member of the University of Oxford you will receive excellent University benefits including access to its generous pension scheme, over 30 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) and University staff discounts.
Our staff and students come from all over the world, and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged, through diverse groups and champions, as well as a number of family-friendly policies, such as the right to apply for flexible working and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence, for example shared parental leave.
You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting statement as part of your online application. Your supporting statement should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one. CV’s alone will not be considered.
