Job description
The below duties will be expected to be carried out by all persons working inside the warehouse:
Packing Boxes –
- Operatives will be expected to read the invoice carefully and pick the requested product with 100% accuracy. Product description and panel quantity must be verified with a colleague before the commencement of picking. Keen attention to detail is essential to this role.
- Panels are to be inspected for damage, prior to being picked. Any damage is to be reported to their line manager, and another panel is to be selected.
- Operatives will be required to lift heavy panels – up to 15kg in weight – and carefully put them into boxes, without damaging the goods.
- Operatives will push the cardboard boxes with the panels inside them through a banding machine – this will usually be completed as part of a two-person team, so working with, and keeping pace with others is key to this role.
- Operatives will tape the boxes shut, using sharp bread knives as a part of the process. Cut proof gloves are provided, and are to be used at the operative’s discretion
- Packed boxes are to be carried to a designated pallet, where the operative will place them carefully, to avoid damaging the goods inside
Loading courier vehicles –
- Operatives will occasionally be required to load panels into LWB vans. Care must be taken to avoid damage to panels
Housekeeping duties –
- Warehouse operatives are expected to maintain the cleanliness of the warehouse. Floors are to be swept, cardboard to be disposed of in the cardboard skip, and any other recyclable materials are to be placed into the mixed recyclables bin. Bins are to be emptied into a truck twice a week.
General warehouse duties –
- The use of a pump-truck will be occasionally required to move heavy pallets. Onsite training will be provided.
- Occasionally pallets will need to be wrapped and strapped to ensure that goods are fastened securely to a pallet. Onsite training will be provided.
Veneer order dispatching –
- Operatives will be expected to use a computer to print orders for dispatching via DHL. Onsite training will be provided.
- Orders are to be processed and picked with 100% accuracy.
- It is integral for the operative to be able to differentiate between wood grains and variations – eyesight and attention to detail must be exemplary to fulfil this role.
