We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic nurse who would like to make a difference to both patient care and staff career progression. This is an exciting opportunity for a registered nurse to enhance their leadership skills and assist the ward manager in the everyday management of patients and staff in a ward environment. Ward 2b Head and Neck surgery provides a vast range of training and learning opportunities to provide a positive patient experience and development for healthcare professionals. We are keen to have a nurse with surgical experience of working within a ward environment and can uphold the high standards of care we thrive to achieve.
The candidate would show excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team and autonomously. The candidate will need to be approachable, act as a role model and uphold the best standards of care for patients. The candidate will need to show ability to work effectively under pressure and manage challenging situations with both patients and staff members. The candidate will need to be responsive to quality improvement and assist in the implementation of changes to practice in the team.
We have 22 Registered Nurses, 2 Registered Nursing Associates, 2 Trainee Nursing Associates, 10 Healthcare Assistants and 2 Apprentice Healthcare Assistants within our team on Ward 2B. We care for a variety of surgical patients including head and neck and maxillofacial surgery. As a ward sister you would be leading a team to ensure patient care needs are met and receiving safe care. You would be communicating and working within the multi-disciplinary team to meet patient needs for care and treatment. You will lead a team in ensuring patient safety, staff safety and compliance with infection control policies and practices. You will need to delegate tasks to team members to ensure work completed in a timely manner both considering staff abilities and experiences. You would be responsible for assisting and maintaining safe staffing skill mix on the ward. You will be supervising new and junior members of staff on shift and assist to develop a competent and proficient workforce. You would be participating in the completion of staff appraisals and managing sickness levels on the ward. You will be involved in investigating ward incidents and communicate lessons learned from these incidents to the ward team. The ward sister would participate in the completion of information governance and audits for the ward and working with the ward manager for quality improvements.
