Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastic Ward Clerk who can support our nursing and medical team. Engage in supporting our patients to have a positive experience pre and post cardiac surgery.
Ward C708 is located at the Bristol Heart Institute level 7. It is the main ward for cardiac surgery department of the Specialised Services division.
Our patient cohorts are all patients having cardiac surgery, adult congenital heart disease or patients having cardiology procedures. Our patient length of stay is from 4-7 days, hence, we are a fast track unit which ensures patient's journey are seamless. We provide care from their admission to discharge. We also practice criteria led discharge, every minute maters and enhanced recovery programme.
Ward C708 is comprised of Ward beds, Day of Surgery Admission Unit and an Enhanced Recovery Unit.
The ward has a Multi-disciplinary approach where you will see regularly physiotherapist, occupational therapist, surgeons, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and specialist nurses like heart failure nurses or wound care nurses.
- To liaise with patients, clinical staff, GPs and Trust support staff in person, via telephone and email as and when necessary
- Show a caring and professional approach towards patients and visitors when carrying out all duties
- Escalate patient queries, capacity problems and general issues to the role’s line manager or relevant clinical staff as appropriate
- To welcome and assist patients, relatives and visitors on arrival to the ward and inform appropriate staff. This may require acting with resilience to deal with sometimes distressed patients and relatives in a professional and empathetic manner
- Ensure that all clinical results and other clinical information are accurately filed in the patient notes and that patient notes are up to date and maintained according to the relevant Trust standards
- Ensure patient records are appropriately received and transferred and trace all notes into and out of the ward
- Prepare patient notes for coding within the relevant deadlines set by the coding team
- Carry out associated clerical duties, for example maintaining accurate filing systems, photocopying, receiving and distributing post, diary management and scanning patient notes if required
- To undertake the role’s duties in the case of a major incident in your department
- Support house keeper in making sure equipment and consumables are available and order through Trust Ordering System
