Job description

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic person to join our friendly Admin Team working in the Unscheduled Care Directorate based at the Great Western Hospital. You will be working on Jupiter Ward, but may, at times, be required to work in other Departments within the Directorate.

This role is part time for a Wednesday and Thursday, between the hours of 08:00 - 16:00 .

The ideal candidate should be hard working, have good communication skills and be able to prioritise own workload. Previous NHS and or receptionist experience would be beneficial but not essential.

Jupiter Ward is one of the 3 wards dedicated to older persons services.

The Ward Clerk will undertake data inputting and administrative work whilst also providing reception duties for the Ward as per standard systems and processes, in order to support effective patient flow. The Ward Clerk will need to work without close supervision, using their own initiative when dealing with enquiries that arise. Close co-operation with Medical Records, Secretarial staff as well as the clinical staff, is vital. The post demands the ability to communicate at all levels with patients, relatives and medical colleagues to maintain a high standard of service to meet the needs of the patient and the business.

Being the focal point of contact for patients and visitors as well as colleagues.

Admitting patients directly onto our four admissions units, liaising with The Public, Ambulance Staff and ED Staff when they arrive on the Ward.

Answering the telephone, dealing with queries, transferring calls and taking messages when needed.

To keep the patient administration systems up to date and accurate at all times, including amending patient demographics, the input of admission, discharge referral and transfer information, progress chasing patient referrals.

Filing paperwork/loose history and liaising with health records if required
