We are looking for hardworking, Ward Based Technician(s) Who are ready to start a career or looking for a change and excited to be a part of our team to deliver high quality pharmacy services to our patients and wards. We welcome applications from current students who are due to complete and register, and/or Community, or PCN technicians, and other sectors of pharmacy. We have a robust and detailed training programme to give you all the skills to succeed.

The post holder must be a qualified NVQ 3 Pharmacy Technician, registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
We will help you develop your skills through comprehensive training by completion of our Ward Based Training Programme. You will be required to work under direction of a Senior Pharmacy Technician within medicines management and governance of a group of wards by prioritising and managing your own workload. This will involve drug history and reconciliation with patients, undertaking audits, liaising with other staff.
You will be required to contribute to the ACT rota and have regular slots or will be enrolled onto the course as soon as possible, if not already attained. The ability to deliver high quality care and contribute to the overall success of the team is essential. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; you must be flexible, reliable and conscientious and be able to work in a busy, but driven environment, which may be on any site in the Trust.
Working weekends and Bank holidays are a core part of the post and on a rota basis, currently 1 in 4. Adhere to rota for ACT final checking slots, Helping the dispensaries at the end of day.

We are continuing to develop the pharmacy service to meet the challenges of the Hospital Transformational Plan and the Carter report. Following significant investment the Trust has successfully implemented EPMA across the whole organisation, alongside which we continue to roll out ward based automated medication storage (Pyxis). The efficiencies gained from electronic prescribing and automation, will assist the Pharmacy team in preparing for the move to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) in 2024.

Dispensary:
- Participate in the dispensing of all prescriptions and orders presented to hospital pharmacy departments serviced by the Trust.
- Participate in the dispensing of clinical trials and high cost drugs ensuring that all documentation is accurately completed.
- To work autonomously in the accuracy checking of dispensed items including controlled drugs.
- To ensure self-management of re-validation of this qualification.
- To develop an understanding of the standards associated with safe handling and storage of medication and to report incidents where these standards or medicines safety has been compromised.
- To manage your own workload and assist in the training and supervision of others.
- Complete patient drug histories at bedside and upon ward environment.
- Plan and Prioritise own workloads.
- Assess patients own medication and document accurately.
- Document any interventions and inform pharmacists.
- Complete medicines reconciliation.
- Evaluate TTO’s.
- Assess inpatient requests.
- Train pharmacy students and new starters.
- Liaise with pharmacists and direct other technicians within team.
- Carry out regular governance and safety audits.
- Work within a speciality rotation.
- Participate with senior technicians with ward manager meetings.
- Attend safety huddles.
- Complete Incident report forms.
