At TATE, the Visitor Engagement Assistants deliver on the ambitions of the Visitor
Experience Department by:
- Warmly welcoming visitors, helping them enjoy and engage with the collection by providing
an outstanding level of visitor care tailored to individual needs. - Responding to visitor inquiries and needs.
We are now hiring for the role of Visitor Engagement Assistant for a FIXED TERM – July/August 2023
HRS PER WEEK; 36
SHIFT PATTERN; 5 days on 3 days off (DAYS ONLY)
SALARY TYPE; Hourly £13.09
PAYROLL; 10th of the month
Reporting To: TATE Coordinator and Managers
UNIQLO Tate Play is Tate Modern’s free program of art, activities and play for families of all ages. During the Summer holidays, the UNIQLO Tate Play production team creates a large-scale activation that invites visitors of all ages to get creative and playfully explore art together.
You will be part of a team who form a pool of Visitor/Family Engagement Assistants that facilitate activities and support the day-to-day operations of the TATE gallery and UNIQLO Tate Play.
Previous UNIQLO Tate Play summer projects have included Please Draw Freely, produced with artist Ei Arakawa, and The obliteration room by Yayoi Kusama. There are also additional busy, fun events within the program such as the summer picnic weekends and last year's family disco.
Requirements
- To be an ambassador for the Tate Museum providing a proactive and warm welcome for all visitors at various locations within the museum.
- To proactively engage with and assist visitors in how best to maximize their enjoyment of the
collection by responding to a wide range of inquiries about the TATE’s collection, buildings, events
and activities and type of services available. - To respond to face-to-face complaints and feedback, taking prompt and appropriate action to
resolve any issues. - Liaise with other departments regarding visitor information, ticketing and membership content to
ensure that it is kept up-to-date and accurate. - Contribute to shaping visitor information in various forms, ensuring polite, professional and
a consistent tone of voice and presentation style which responds to visitor’s needs and reflects the
Tate’s brand. - Punctual, reliable, and flexible.
Additional Information
No SIA license is required.
Essential Skills

Experience of delivering high-quality customer/visitor service in a fast paced, public-facing
environment. - Experience of engaging positively with customers/visitors to develop loyalty and promote
and sell products and services. - Experience responding to written feedback and inquiries
- Computer literate with knowledge of Windows-based applications such as word-processing,
databases, spreadsheets, Internet, and email applications. - Able to communicate with others in a warm, welcoming and approachable manner in-person
and on the telephone and explain a range of information in a clear and concise way - An adaptable approach and communication style, proactively anticipating individual visitor
needs. - Diplomatic with good listening skills, handling complaints and difficult situations with
confidence, tact and authority. - Excellent written communication skills.
- Able to work well in a team as well as using own initiative and creativity, all the time
maintaining a positive and flexible solutions-focused approach. - Punctual, reliable and flexible to changing departmental and visitor needs.
Desired Skills
- Experience working in a similar environment.
- Some knowledge of art history and/or the Tate Museum collection
