The City of Santa Clarita’s Communications division is currently recruiting for a highly motivated and energetic professional for the position of Video Specialist in its multimedia team. This position involves all aspects of video production and requires the ability to edit, switch, and work live multi-camera production, in addition to all aspects of production (camera, audio, and lighting). This position will be required to work evenings and weekends as needed on short notice.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in all aspects of video production, including developing ideas, writing scripts, filming, directing on-camera talent, and editing and posting content that highlight various City projects, programs, and events, including the State of the City luncheon
- Creates long- and short-form video content, including instructional videos, internal video packages, public service announcements, phone hold messages, and video slideshows
- Plans and executes pre-production operations, including evaluating the type and placement of cameras and audio and lighting units; performs post-production duties, including editing, dubbing and versioning videos for multiple platforms, including web, broadcast, movie theaters placements, and social media.
- Films and records content with professional cameras, broadcast pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras, and audio recording and mobile devices
- Assists with complete television production of live, televised public meetings, including switching live City Council and Commission meetings
- Maintains and organizes the City’s photo and video library, including recordings of all public meetings and other historic assets
- Assesses and recommends the procurement of new technology to update and meet the needs of the origination to successfully execute multimedia projects for the City
- Provides video and photographic coverage of events, including ribbon cuttings, ground breakings, concerts, community events, luncheons, meetings, and various other programs and events
- Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies, City leadership and staff, and the public
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree in Radio, Television, Video, Film, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, English or related field is highly desirable
- One year of experience in video and television production
- Possession of a valid Class C California driver license
- Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary will be considered

Compensation includes enrollment in California Public Employees’ Retirement System as a replacement for Social Security plus a competitive benefits package. All appointments are made at step 1 of the salary range unless otherwise authorized by the City Manager.
