Job Introduction

BBC StoryWorks is the award-winning commercial brand studio within BBC Studios, responsible for developing, producing and delivering content-led commercial campaigns across our international digital and television news offer, as well as representing other BBC brands as required. This includes but is not limited to commercial brand films, digital creative, podcasts, written content, as well as the packaging of editorial sponsorships.

The VP BBC Storyworks EMEA is a pivotal role within StoryWorks, providing leadership to a substantial and talented team based in London and Dubai, working hand in hand with the EMEA Ad Sales division in delivering content-led revenue across the region. You will be responsible for the effective resourcing of the team, the development of its staff, and the overall spend, revenue and contribution targets of the unit as directed by the business. The team is responsible for orchestrating and overseeing the delivery of all aspects of the production of client campaigns from the initial briefing through production to the campaign itself.

The role operates in a highly matrixed environment, with multiple key stakeholders across Ad Sales and the other divisions of StoryWorks, as well as colleagues in editorial, legal, marketing and digital product. Ultimately this person is responsible for ensuring the most effective delivery of the content-led component of EMEA Ad Sales revenue, contributing significantly to the overall revenue and profit of the business.

Main Responsibilities
  • Support the global BBC StoryWorks division in defining and delivering award-winning world-class content campaigns for clients
  • Line manage the creative, strategy, production and project and campaign management teams in StoryWorks EMEA, ensuring they drive and deliver the content component of EMEA Ad Sales revenue targets
  • Ensure the effective management of all matters relating to compliance in regards to solutions offered
  • Oversee the effective legal and project management frameworks for the delivery of successful campaigns
  • Display patience and cultural sensitivity in communications with agencies / clients, in-country resources and colleagues
  • Demonstrate BBC values in all dealings with colleagues, clients and agencies

Success in this senior role requires an in-depth knowledge of the content-marketing landscape coupled with an impeccable track record of successfully conceiving and delivering commercial campaigns. The ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and ensure the achievement of high quality results on time and within budget are also critical skills in this role.

This is a job for a confident, experienced and innovative individual who can be relied on to operate equally effectively within teams and independently, be an adept stakeholder manager across a complex matrix business, and demonstrate initiative, remaining focused, calm and consistent under pressure.

FURTHER ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Work in lockstep with the SVP, EMEA Sales (to whom you have a dotted line report) to ensure the effective response and delivery of campaigns that form a vital core of overall EMEA advertising revenue
  • Be in continual contact with the regional Sales VPs to ensure effective support and project management, and adherence to contribution targets with respect to content costs
  • Consult with the Sales teams on new business opportunities and provide expert advice on BBC StoryWorks’ creative and production capabilities
  • Foster a culture of rapid and comprehensive responses to briefs that excite the client/agency and meet or exceed the exacting quality and content standards required by BBC StoryWorks
  • Work closely with the editorial teams across BBC.com and BBC World News to understand the editorial strategy and opportunities, and to help ensure effective execution and campaign delivery
  • Ensure the BBC’s compliance policies are adhered to at all times to safeguard the reputation of the organisation, taking ownership of compliance for StoryWorks-created and delivered content across EMEA, and managing risk accordingly
  • Be a senior “face” of BBC Studios in EMEA, and be a visible presence in market
  • Keep up to date with trends and new developments across content marketing and the wider industry
  • Seek feedback from a variety of sources to improve performance and develop capability
  • Continuously evolve personal and professional capability in line with business needs, exploring new commercial opportunities as and when they arise
