In the past six years, the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES) has doubled in size to 5,000 students, 300 academic, and 150 professional services staff, and has joined the world top 100 across all disciplines. NMES comprises the departments of
Chemistry, Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, and Physics
, and also hosts interdisciplinary research centres in the Physical Science of Life and Net Zero, the Centre for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP) and is home to the university’s Artificial Intelligence Institute. We have made significant investments in our staff and infrastructure, and the student experience, to be competitive with the world’s best.
We are now looking to appoint a new Vice Dean (Education) to continue to build on the concerted efforts made to transform leadership in education and to inspire others. Working closely with the Executive Dean and fellow Vice Deans, the postholder will lead our education strategy, supporting the development of interdisciplinary research-led education, fostering a culture of education innovation and overseeing enhancement of our education delivery.
The Vice Dean (Education) will represent the Executive Dean at university level in education-related matters, working closely with the Vice President (Education & Student Success), and is supported by a strong team of academic education leads in each department.
The successful candidate will bring significant experience of developing and leading educational initiatives and demonstrate understanding of the priorities, pressures and culture of a research-led university. The postholder must be comfortable operating within a complex organisation and engaging with a wide range of colleagues across the university. Strong candidates will be experienced, inclusive leaders, who will bring personal authority, commitment, determination and the ability to listen to the role.

This post will be offered on a full-time, indefinite contract. The Vice Dean Education responsibility will be for an initial 4-year term.
