GMP Professional Standards Branch (PSB) is committed to promoting the need for integrity and professionalism. The Force Vetting Unit (FVU) forms part of the PSB and is an integral part of ensuring that that the force only recruits those with proven honesty and integrity into GMP, safeguarding the reputation of the force, protecting our assets, and securing public confidence.
You will be joining the Vetting team, conducting force vetting in accordance with the Vetting Code of Practice and the College of Policing Vetting Authorised Professional Practice, for every person who has access to police premises, information, and systems.
You will provide advice and guidance, internally and externally, to managers and applicants on all vetting issues. Ensuring the prompt dispatch of electronic vetting forms and assist in checking that incoming forms are complete and ready for processing, paying particular attention to detail and accuracy. Further contact may be required with the applicant either by phone and/or in writing to clarify vetting submissions.
You will assist a team of Vetting Researchers and Administration Assistants in carrying out vetting checks against specialist and sensitive databases for matching information, according to documented procedures, prioritise and monitor the progress of vetting checks, pursuing progress until results are obtained. Dealing with queries on a daily basis via phone, letter, email or in person, relating to vetting and general queries.
One of your main responsibilities will be interrogating a variety of databases and documents to conduct research into applicants and their family members, associates, formulate accurate file summaries based on the relevance of the findings and as required, conduct vetting interviews in order to assist in the decision-making process.
This is a challenging role. Whilst full training will be provided to the suitable candidate It is essential to the role that you have excellent communication skills, are experienced in carrying out duties relevant to the post and able to effectively interpretate information using your discretion, thoroughness and initiative.
Experience in all aspects of inputting, updating, sorting and reporting using Microsoft systems and databases are essential, producing written documents to a high standard, working quickly and accurately, other general clerical duties as required, such as photocopying, scanning and the processing of correspondence and maintaining accurate records.
