Vendor Tooling Engineer (Direct) Reading, England
Job description
Volta Trucks, a hypergrowth European Electric Truck Manufacturer, is looking for a Vendor Tooling Engineer.
Reporting into the Purchasing Project Lead this role will support in identifying and delivering opportunities to ensure appropriate use of funds appertaining to all aspects of supplier-based tooling in line with product aspirations. You will interface with both internal and external stakeholders including Category purchasing teams, engineering and suppliers. Deliver ‘vendor tooling should cost' estimates for Volta Truck parts along with Vendor Tooling cost and content sign off.
What you will do:
- Evaluate, manage and report on installed and forecasted tooling capacity within the Volta Trucks supply base to deliver best economic solutions reflective of Volta Trucks growth plan
- Support supplier and tool maker selection activities taking into account lead times, process modelling and verification to support successful Programme launches
- Support the purchasing teams in cost interrogation and Supplier/ Toolmaker negotiations
- Influence programme affordability by identifying and pursuing volume appropriate tooling solutions
- Work with the purchasing and engineering teams to validate proposed vendor tooling cost changes in line with design changes to ensure value for money
- Use technical and commercial expertise to review, validate and drive best practice in supplier processes
We would like you to have:
- A proven track record of identifying and delivering cost reductions within a complex supply base
- Significant procurement experience within manufacturing – preferably automotive or commercial vehicle
- Understanding of Tool and Component Design key cost drivers with a key focus on manufacturing processes
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to understand, process and present complex data
- Effective communication and presentation skills to internal and external stakeholders
