Vehicle Technician
Full Time / 37 hours per week / Permanent
Join our team of Vehicle Technicians and be responsible for the maintenance and repair work of all our Fleet Vehicles.
The Fleet service provides and maintain a large diverse fleet of vehicles including light goods, PSV, heavy goods and some items of plant items, which in turn supports many of the Council’s statutory and high-profile services, including Cleansing, Housing, Highways, Parks & Open Spaces, Passenger and Transport Services and numerous more across the City of Leicester.
This is a full time permanent position working Monday to Friday based at Leycroft Road, however you will also be required to work from various locations around the city if needed.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll maintain the council’s diverse fleet of vehicles, plant and equipment to include inspection, servicing, test preparation, fault diagnosis and repair, in accordance with the council’s agreed health and safety policies and procedures and current building and industry regulations.
As a Vehicle Technician, you’ll also ensure all work is carried out in the most efficient and effective manner, you’ll complete all written or computerised vehicle and job sheet records. In addition, you’ll interpret information received from drivers and users of plant and equipment to give advice on actions to be taken and provide feedback on the work completed.
What you’ll need
You’ll need to be able to demonstrate previous experience of servicing vehicles, plant and equipment to include fault diagnostics, repair and maintenance as well as ability to use the appropriate trade tools and methods and how to apply these in a safe way. In addition, you’ll have ability to trace, diagnose and repair vehicles, plant and equipment faults, to include the identification of parts and equipment required to ensure vehicles are safe for the road.
You must be able to have at least one of the following qualifications
A successful completion of a recognised industry apprenticeship such as an Institute of Motor Industry (IMI) approved apprenticeship and/or Level 3 qualification in light/heavy vehicle or plant engineering (City & Guilds Part II, BTEC National, ONC/D or similar)
Due to the nature of the post a full driving licence is required. LGV (Cat C) desirable, not essential.
